interesting and a little controversial

Thursday, January 03, 2013

NY Times printed an interesting article yesterday about mortality risks and a BMI that registers as overweight--and they don't play out like you would think. Today, it printed an editorial about that study:

This is interesting to me, because my BMI is in the mildly overweight category right now. So, do I want to be thinner because I feel better around 180, or do I want to be thinner because I want to fit an aesthetic model that I've been told is the ideal? Something to think about. I'm not going to give up healthy eating and regular exercise, though. I _know_ that helps me feel better and relieves stress.

It is interesting how science swings back and forth.

    Thank you, AnneMargo!

Yes, I want to lose weight. I want to be more fit. But I haven't wanted to become a stick person to be healthy and this backs me up.

My dad constantly was told to get his weight below 170 lbs. and every time he did, he got sick with something fairly major. emoticon His body just wasn't happy weighing that "little".

I increasingly believe that being moderate is the best. Eating better without being fanatical about it, moving more without becoming obsessed with exercise and let our bodies do what they will with those changes. If we get thinner - we get thinner. If we don't - we don't. Either way, we'll be **I'll be** healthier.

This is taking a great burden off of me. This is giving me more motivation than anything else I've read to get going on my SparkPeople program. emoticon

Yes, I saw that article also. I am also slightly overweight right now according to the BMI chart. I had planned to lose another 40 pounds, but now I am wondering also. I definitely think I want to lose another 20, because I think that will help my knees even more, but that was in intriguing article for sure.
