Lack of Sleep

Wednesday, January 02, 2013

I didn't take melatonin last night and I paid for it. I woke up @1:30 and couldn't get back to sleep until @3:30. I sparked for awhile, then sat and read some more in my Chronological Bible.

It is so true about sleep and weight control. I was doing well with things on my diet plan until this afternoon. I was so tired, I ended up eating a piece of pumpkin bread with chocolate chips melted on it. But it was a small piece and I didn't eat a second one even though I wanted to. I stayed within my calorie range and even ate 7 servings of freggies!

Daily Goals:
1) Blog -- emoticon
2) Exercise at least 10 minutes. emoticon 20 min on the treadmill
3) Eat at least 3 freggies a day.. emoticon 7 servings!

I've been taking melatonin for several years, and it definitely allowed me to start sleeping the whole night through. I have yet to find anyone saying it's dangerous to take.

My husband just got really sick, and several days before that, he had 4 or 5 sleepless nights as he tried to problem solve on a recent job. Sleep is really important, and one of the things I'm working on as well. Mainly in the area of getting to bed at a reasonable time.

I'm going to borrow your idea of adding goals to the daily blog. I'm going to add it to my own blog. Great idea.

I have troubles sleeping, too. I fall to sleep just fine (because I'm so tired) but then I can't sleep more than six hours. Sounds like you like the melotonin? Do you find it helps with the sleep longevity?

Sounds like you're doing everything right. Dr Ian was on Dr Oz and I visited his blog to find the following gem on "How can a woman improve her quality of sleep?"

Here are five simple things a woman can do to improve her sleep.
    1) Lighten up on late meals and avoid eating heavy foods right before going to bed
    2) Avoid caffeine, alcohol, nicotine four to six hours before bed time
    3) Make the bedroom more sleep friendly: dark curtains, reduce noise, comfortable temp
    4) Go to sleep when you’re truly tired and not because you think it’s time to go to sleep
    5) Creating a bedtime ritual of doing the same thing each night tells your body it’s time to wind down

Good job staying within your calorie range, even with the pumpkin bread treat. I hope you get some sound sleep tonight. Sleep really is a major component to successful weight loss.
