Before and In-between

Before I painted my cabinets black (one of many colors) my cabinets were red. I envisioned a country kitchen. I had a wooden farm table in my dining area. All the decor were roosters. My appliances were white. Then my stove went. UGH! So I found this black and silver (supposed to look like stainless steel) one on sale. You all know how I am about paying full price for anything! Now of course, the red doesn't go with this so it had to go. I never could get the shade right anyway.
So, next came the black paint. It looked nice but the white laminate counter tops screamed 70s and were driving me nuts. I couldn't afford to replace them so that scream would just have to settle down to a whine.
Then the great flood happened! Well, not a flood, I'm exaggerating, but the leak from he77 that caused the mold and the mold cleanup which lead to this new kitchen. It's not my dream kitchen because the insurance company will only pay for "like materials for like materials." The nerve of them. So the granite was a splurge that I had to pay for myself because after all of the stress (I've been dealing with this kitchen thing since March) and a month without a kitchen sink, including Thanksgiving Day, I deserved this.
The plumber still has to come out, the floor still has to be installed, the back splash and new light fixture. But it's coming along... I'll post a final pic when it's completed.
The house seems like it's breathing a sigh of relief. You see, it's a two-story colonial and wants to be decorated traditionally. I want a country farmhouse but it never felt quite right when I tried to decorate it like it was one. So for now, the house has won. But I'm not one to give up. It will become my dream home one day, which will include a front porch and a chicken or two in the back yard.
Remember when I got this table? Remember how happy I WAS? Can't wait to get my farm table back.
Have a wonderful day.
