Time for change

Tuesday, December 04, 2012

As I am writing this blog i'm wondering what I can say to inspire someone else. I sit here back almost to my starting weight four years ago. How could that possible inspire anyone to take that first step?

I have to tell ya it isn't easy to come here and say "i've failed". But really have I? I mean i'm coming here each and everyday. I log exercise minutes, though they really could be more, I begin the day off on track, it is the afternoons and evenings that hit me hard. So what do I intend to tell anyone who is struggling also at this moment?

Change is scary but nothing is scarier than looking in the mirror, buying clothes the old size, changing belts four times before you find one that fits (did that one yesterday), getting on the treadmill and not lasting twenty minutes. Sit ups? Oh yeah I remember those, vaguely. How about the tingling you get from standing on your feet all day and heaven forbid you sit down when you get home....it hurts worse to get back up and try to make your way to the kitchen to get dinner.

So all of this has led me back to spark and to fully embrace all that it has to offer. I know the holidays are coming but what better way to enjoy them then to celebrate success if even for one day. Because that one day will give you strength to reach for two.

Michelle, your dedication to change and your determination to succeed as well as your willingness to share your struggles as well as your victories will always be inspirational.
Right now, today I want you to do something. I want you to stop focusing on where you WERE. I want you to stop reminding yourself that you were ALMOST at that magic number. Yeah, I know...you are rolling your eyes at me right now. I'm okay with that. I want you to hold your head high, look in the mirror and see how much you have changed. This journey isn't always about our weight..sometimes it's about finding out what makes us happy, what makes us strong, and what is important to us. It makes us realize who we are and what we want or don't want out of this life we are leading.
Today, CHOOSE. Choose to stop looking at the past, stop dwelling on where you HAVE BEEN on this journey and don't try to go back. Right now, take a new fork in this road and start a NEW journey. Take the lessons you need from the past and leave the rest behind. From today, don't try to regain lost ground....celebrate the beginning of a new road laid out before you.
I know you have the power and determination to do this. Welcome to TODAY. A day that you have before you to shape any what you choose. Yes, I said it again -- CHOICES. Know that you are loved and appreciated.

I know you can do it. This isnt my first rodeo either. I lost some weight about 2 decades ago, and here I am... again. But the difference is, I was "here again" for the majority of these last two decades, so you are so much farther ahead of the game by getting back to what you know you need to do.

I was an exercise fool before, and knew almost nothing about nutrition. Now that I know what I know about nutrition, and how it is 80% of the game, there is no reason to not reach my goal. And I know you will reach your goals as well!!

It can be depressing to focus on a perceived failure but if we look at this as another opportunity for a new beginning, our setback can be put in perspective. Think of how much you have learned from being active on this site and how all of that will help you succeed this time. emoticon -- Lou

You inspire others by being honest and real. There is nothing more discouraging than to read blog after blog where everyone is doing everything perfectly and it is all so easy for them to be successful. I come here for real people with real struggles who really have to work for it. That is what inspires me to keep going.

Michelle, you inspire me every time i read your posts. I always take something away from them that helps me. I wish I could say something to help you, but I am not as good at it as you are. I will just say that we have all been there. I went from 265 to 170 about 8 years ago and in August I found myself back at 250, buying my old sizes, shopping in the stores I hoped I would have to visit again. I believe you, we can do it. You can do it.
