Blistery day in the Desert

Saturday, November 10, 2012

We were headed out to exercise the dogs. Clouds everywhere. Looking at Palmdale Hills

San Bernardino Mountains

Poor Princess Alice. She loves to look out the window, and the window was covered with rain. I have never seen her look so sad.

I was playing ball with the dogs. DH had to go pick up DD from school.

I played with the dogs for about 10 mins. then it started to rain lightly. Sleet was mixed in. So we went into the house. After 15 mins. the rain stopped. I thought of the roses. I love rain drops, dew drops, water drops on roses. So I grabbed the camera in one hand, the ball in my other hand, and back outdoors we went.
I threw the ball, then took a picture. Everyone is happy with my method.

The neighbor across the street has pretty flowers.

My Daughter had to meet up with one of her teachers. Of course I had to take a pic of them. I guess DD knew this was coming lol. Here is MZ. B...She is really sweet, and a great teacher.

We had thunder, lightening, sleet, hail, rain, and wind...Not sure what to expect for tomorrow. We shall see!

P.S. This one is for you Connie emoticon

You always post such gorgeous photos of them...wish I could grow them! emoticon

When I was a kid, meeting with teachers was unheard of! I see that off and on here at SP, so many are teachers and meet up with students off campus, even former students. Nice photo of your daughter..she seems really happy to be with her! emoticon

I love pictures of weather and cloud formations! Great job my friend! The raindrops on roses and whiskers on kittens! Beautiful pictures of the roses and the dogs.

I lost my 14 year old Border Collie November, 7th, 2012. We have been in and out of the vet with him for several months with growing weakness and odd behavior. He would walk with his head tilled to the right side. He would go to pick up a toy and yip in pain then leaving the toy and lying down with no interest in the ball. These symptoms gradually got worse every week, but the vet could find nothing.

The next symptom was some paralysis on the right side of his face, difficulty eating, restless at night with heavy panting as if he could not get enough air. His bark became hoarse and into the vet again. Eventually he lost his voice totally. They put him under to check his throat for several possibilities, number 1 a collapsed Larynx, but they found nothing and suggested we take him up to our vet school where they have better diagnostics!

We took him and our hundred pound Anatolian female for surgery on her torn ACL in her right hind knee! Tess is healing nicely!

My Toby turned out after two days of testing and watching him get worse by the hour. He did have a collapsed larynx and they were going in to do surgery. They did an ultrasound we decided to do the MRI before surgery to see if they could see something definitive that could be causing his paralysis and partially paralyzed Larynx. They said they didn't expect to see anything but they hoped it would at least help guide them in their surgical approach.

They called and were very surprised to find what they did, he had a mass of tumor at the worst possible location, right at his brain stem. It suddenly explained all the symptoms he was having. We discussed the option of 18 days of radiation and chemo which might give him six more months. He was not doing well during the preliminary tests, even they had us pick him up between procedures because he would get to stressed and cause his breathing to become more difficult. I could not put him through 18 days of radiation and chemo when he was so clearly miserable those last five days.

I was in tears on Sunday, November 4th before we left to take him up there, I was ready to go to our vet and put him out of his misery. But my hubby convinced me they could get him in and help him, he was still fighting so off we went!

It was not to be, my 14 year companion dog who was there for me in my wheel chair everyday! He was there for me while my girls were off to college, my hubby worked long hours. Toby knew every possible trick you could possibly teach him! So he started making up his own games and tricks! He knew all the things I needed by name, my shoes, purse, socks camera, reacher, and more. Then if he didn't I could point and say, "Toby, get Mommies" he would get it with so much excitement you would think you had thrown his favorite toy. There are So many amazing stories I could tell but it would be a book! I feel like I have lost a child, my heart aches, I can't stop crying, I can't sleep at night then sleep all day! He was an amazing dog and there is no other like him. Coming home without him made the 2 and 1/2 hour drive seem like an eternity! It has taken me six days to be able to put this in words, it was seeing your two BC friends that allowed me to share this with you!

I love seeing the pictures of your Border Collie friends you take your time to go and exercise them! They are a special breed!

I love raindrops of petals too, so pretty. My roses often flower through Christmas but not this year!
I expect the rain's welcome at your end, we've had so much of the stuff we're water logged...lol...the potato fields are been picked here at the moment and the roads through the village are atrocious with slippery mud...makes me wary of walking!
It's a little milder today at 45 degrees and the sun's finally broken through the thick fog we woke up too...proper moosy it was this morning!
    Have a good week-end emoticon
