Thanks PHOENIXNICKI, for your comment--a nice long one for sure but you speak the truth.

Notice how many people responded to this blog post? Maybe America is asleep...or at least Spark people are.

I like your analogy of teenagers and grandpas. I just don't know if this teenager gets to have a future. There certainly are a few "grandpas" in the world but unfortunately there are enough weapon wielding "teenagers" that might just end it all. Sort of like a gang war that ends badly.

I really need to update my profile picture. I've put on some weight and am now 68. Thanks for the complements.

    Hi Aniduck,
I was surfing in SP and found your posting. I love America because she is my country, I love the desert (where I grew up), and I love the people. But I do agree with what HBO was trying to say. I left Phoenix to live in Europe for 36 years. I found out that Switzerland has more freedom than we do, everyone has health insurance, jobs pay salaries that can sustain a family so women can but do not have to work, education, even higher education is free, and a wonderful place to live. I missed my desert, and people with a common background. I came back to find a different place than I left. A dwindling middle class, the working poor (working two jobs to survive), people who can't walk straight, or people dying of cancer because they don't have insurance, and even worse people being lied to that we are the best country in the world and we don't need to look to other countries because we are the best. I think they keep saying how great we are so people do not think about their lives. How they work too hard to make car payments so they can drive to work. Don't misunderstand me. I believe in America with all of her faults. I know America can turn around, she has done this many times in the past. I see countries as people. For me American is that teenager who thinks he knows it all, gets angry if someone doesn't agree, and knows he is the world. Switzerland is for me a grandpa who rocks in his rocking chair with a pipe observing and criticizing but knows he doesn't have to go out and change things. Everything works out in the end. Wow, so much writing for so early in the morning and with only one coffee. I love your picture of only 60 and I know you are still a beautiful lady, you radiate. Wishing you a wonderful day!
