BLC 20 update

After reviewing my original plan for the 12 weeks, I think I really only need to change one thing that's not working well for me.

One of my goals was to take over the grocery shopping from my husband. My thought on this was that it would enable me to make sure I got all the healthy foods I need for the week. Sometimes I can send my husband to the grocery with what I think is a detailed list, but somehow not end up with what I had in mind.

I found, however, that this backfired on me!!! To me, the grocery store is a minefield right now! There are way too many holiday foods, smells and displays. To a self confessed food junkie, it's a dangerous place. Halloween candy is especially tough to pass up. This is exactly where in years past I have started the traditional "holiday" weight gain that lasted all the way through the New Year.

No, I did NOT buy any junk food, but even being surrounded by it set me off on a food binge that pretty much lasted for two days.

Maybe someday I'll be strong enough to handle this without losing my mind... but that day ain't here yet!!!!

    I hear you, I always ask myself during those moments if I want to work that much harder to work off the extra I ate or if it tastes good enough for the extra work, if not then I don't buy it. More often then not I'm buying less and less of that stuff for myself and my kids because its just not good for us in the quantities it tends to come in. You can do it, I know you can, take charge and get it done!!!!

    Hang in there. You can do this. You will do this when you are ready. The way the stores do the holiday thing makes me crazy. When I was in Sam's last week, they had their Christmas display up and were playing Christmas music!!! In October. emoticon

    Nice that you have someone who will do the shopping for you and help you avoid some of the dangers. I'm sure that sometime in the future you will also be able to withstand the shopping pressure. These things take time.

    My grocery shopping tips are:

    - Make a list and stick to it. The only things you can buy that aren't on the list are produce.

    - Eat before you shop so you're not hungry.

    - Chew gum while shopping so if there are sample stations set up, your mouth will already have something in it.

    - Bring a healthy snack in your purse for emergencies.

    I know you can do it. Anyone who works in a daycare obviously has the strength of will to stay the course.

    emoticon I understand about the holiday weight gain. The vendors at work are relentless for bringing in all kinds of food that I would never buy myself. But, we're both strong and determined women! Let's emoticon ! emoticon
