Doing the Erie Road Strut
Monday, October 08, 2012
Yesterday when I was out walking I was wending my way home when I saw a deer strutting up the street in my direction. I live in the middle of the city but I am quite close to a very large park which is up against a river so that west of the one big street that goes North/South in my neighborhood it gets a bit rustic.
The deer did not seem perturbed by me. She may not even have noticed me; she was doing a thorough investigation of the front yards of the houses across the street from mine. Unhurried, at the pace of a casual shopper in a department store, she sniffed and sampled the various greenerys, and darted back and forth behind the cars parked in driveways as if she were playing hide-and-seek with me.
I casually sauntered home and called quietly to DH and my older son to come out and look and we all stood in the driveway watching the almost royal progress up and down the street until the deer decided to take the back yard route. I hope to see it again! It's certainly too big to invite itself indoors for Thanksgiving dinner as my possum friend did! I wanted to be the possum's mommy, but knew it would just be too "blended" a family to work out.
