Mesama Bites the Dust

Friday, September 14, 2012

So, yeah.... Yesterday, Mesama bit the dust....

I was trying to be good sparking girl and get in my walk. I left a little earlier than usual to pick up my son and was enjoying myself. I took my dog with me and the time came to head toward my boys bus stop...

Being the responsible dog owner that I am, I clean up her "business" when she is done... What I think happened was... I picked it up and continued walking and was tying off the bag as I walked so I didn't have to smell it till we got home. I wasn't paying attention, then I felt my foot hit a deep crack in the walk way and my ankle twisted. I ALMOST caught myself from the fall but then my other foot caught another crack in the sidewalk and down I went, sliding a few feet...

I somehow managed to damage just about every part of me except for my face. I think I instinctively just put my arms up in front of it. Thank Goodness! I hobbled away with skinned elbows...

bruised, slightly scraped and stiffness in my shoulder and neck, a banged up knee and a twisted ankle.

So, yeah, picture this.... as you drive down the street you see this big lady suddenly flailing around in some kind of wild unknown dance and ends it in some crazy break dance move that sent her sliding down the cement walkway... Terror written all over her face, or is it part of that crazy, snazzy dance she is doing? Who knows... but she magnificently ends it with water bottle... sun glasses... iPod... headphones... dog... and even doggie POOP flying every which way for the grand finale!!! But somehow manages to keep her cell phone safely tucked into her bra, unscathed.

I say epic. How about you? Hahaha

But anyways, at least I can laugh and joke through the pain right? and my cousin says, and I quote... "you did it while getting your exercise in so that automatically qualifies you for the "hardcore" title (any injury that occurs during working out = hardcore), hehehe."

So who knew? Definitely not me.... I didn't think I was hardcore at anything but eating and couch surfing... I'll take it!!!

As of last night, my husband came home and took a close look at the more 'meaty' hamburger looking scrape and informed me that it was riddled with dirt, splinters and grass. So I got the pleasure of him pulling gunk out of the abrasion for a half an hour, then wiping it down with hydrogen peroxide, then lathering me in neosporin, wrapping it up, giving me motrin and tucking me into bed. At least he is gentle, phew.

This morning, they are still wrapped up, in all honesty, I am a little scared to try and take the gauze off of them by myself in case it sticks. My shoulder and neck are still pretty stiff. My knee is bruised and sore. My ankle is huge, well bigger than usual anyways but surprisingly enough it isn't excruciatingly painful that I can't walk....

So, Yeah... I never said I wasn't a good time. emoticon

I am laughing... honestly, I am. I feel like an idiot for not paying attention. I'm usually not the clumsy sort, especially in places where anyone can see me. But of course this time I had a ton of witnesses because... yup, you guessed it, it happened on a very busy street where a lot of cars were stopped at a light... funny thing though, at least 10 cars were right there and not a single person bothered to roll down their window and ask if I was okay.

Well no one except for the absolutely beautiful and luxuriously thin jogger that gracefully ran up behind me. She probably weighed as much as my thigh and wanted to help me up. So kind of her but I refused because for one... I was embarrassed ... and two... I wasn't sure I COULD get up. She was kind but I assured her that I could call someone if I wasn't able once I assessed the damage. So off she went in her graceful as a gazelle jog that I envied... but was thankful to her for her concern. Sweet woman, hopefully I see her again sometime to thank her again.

To sum up my adventures in tumble land... I am resting up and mending. I am going to take this as a lesson learned and keep my feet firmly planted in place until the dog poopie bag is tied off and I can safely walk on with awareness. I will continue to laugh at how I must have looked to all those witnesses and move forward.

Seeing that I feel this is fitting and I couldn't help but notice that MESAMA takes the place of "another one" quite nicely.... I had to include it....

Late reading this, so hope you are all healed up by now!
Sad how others pay no attention and don't even check on how a person is doing in a situation like this.
But nice of the jogger to stop.

Two words; epsom salts. Helps with the bruising, and a nice soak in the tub always feels better.

Glad you weren't hurt too badly. It may take a few days for the bruises to fade and new skin to form over those scrapes but at least you did not break your ankle!

You are still my hero for getting up and taking care of business. your DH sounds very sweet and loving with you. That would be worth it to me in itself. I"m glad you are doing ok and recovering without anything that needed hospital or EMT treatment. You have such an upbeat and amusing take on life.. That's great

    Hugs Marisa!
I sure hope you feel better soon, body and pride.
Nothing like our embarrassment with falling and people watching. I hope they feel extreme guilt for not helping you out. Selfish lot!

Oh noes =( I really hope you heal up soon. I am super klutzy myself so I'm constantly injuring myself one way or another.

Okay, I think we are related! Really, honestly I do! I joined SP in June, less than a month later I was being a good girl and doing my walking in my back yard - 8 laps is 2 miles. Well, all of a sudden a back spasm hits me and my leg is about to give out, so I shifted my weight to my left leg which was unfortunately in soft sand, so my ankle rolled and I broke my fibula!!

Just walking and minding my own business, and BOOM!

I am so sorry about your elbows, but they will heal. Just remember the old rule of "no elbows on the table" and you should do fine. And I not a doctor, nor do I play one on TV, BUT you might want to see someone about the neck and shoulder. I have neck and shoulder issues from when I broke my neck in a car accident. It never got treated and today I am unable to work because of it. And they don't like to give unemployment to younger people.

Just saying... err on the safe side with the neck - it's the only one you get!

Battle on, Warrior Woman! You can have my accident-prone spot if you'd like. I am still in a cast 8 weeks afterward!

Don't give a single worry to what anyone thought. It was probably something like, oh! She's gonna do a digger, hmm wonder what I should make for dinner, hey how come this traffic isn't moving, hey! is that dog poo?
It was nice of the gazelle to stop and lend a hand, but again you really shouldn't have felt embarrassed, later when she relates the story, I'd bet your weight won't play into it at all. I think we just get told so often something is wrong with us because of our size that we believe it.
I'm so glad you weren't seriously hurt! Take care of yourself and I hope you feel better soon.
