WOW!! - Looking back at the same time last year, I never in a million years would have seen me where I am today!
You see, a year ago I was working in the Cosmetic Industry and after 17 years, I still loved my job! Christmas came and went, it is always a stressful time of year as it is retail and very busy.
In January of this year, I started thinking of New Years resolutions and I decided that I would take my love of fitness to the next level by competing in my first fitness competition and at the same time start courses to become a Personal Trainer. Since becoming pregnant with my 2 yr old son, I have become very interested in proper exercise and diet and after his birth I spent alot of time researching all things fitness related!
I became a Certified Fitness Leader and Competed in my first fitness competition in March of this year! In May, I was organizing a health and wellness event at my work when a Pilates Instructor and owner of a studio here in town dropped by to inform me of an event she was having - Call it divine intervention!! She mentioned she was looking for an instructor and someone who could potentially manage the marketing and sales at studio if and when needed.
I jumped at this, I just had a good feeling. I have years of Marketing and Sales experience as well as a passion for fitness and I felt I was the person for this position - luckily she agreed!!!
I left my job in June and started practicing Pilates to get the prerequisite hours to take the courses and I completed the required courses to become a Stott Pilates Instructor last Sunday :)
It has been a very busy summer, I worked very hard to complete the courses but as they say, nothing worth having in life comes easy!! I am officially on the schedule at the studio next month and I will continue teaching until I complete enough practicum hours to take the exam to become certified.
As for becoming a Certified P.T - Well, It seems I am going in a different direction!! I still want to stay certified within the organization so I will take Group Fitness in Nov. to become a Certified Group Fitness Instructor by March.
It's been a long time since I blogged!!! It feels good :) - I need to get back to sparking, I miss this wonderful community and feel that the support and encouragement I received first with sister site babyfit.com and then Sparkpeople is one of the reasons I continue to pursue my dreams of working in this industry.
Well that's an update in a nutshell, I hope all you wonderful Sparkers are having a fabulous summer!!!
Take care all :)
Below is a before and after pic - The first pic was taken when I was 35 lbs heavier right before I joined Sparkpeople in August of 2010. The after pic was taken at Monica Brandt's
F.E.M Camp at the end of last Month!
