and I am freaking out!
now you would think that all my other events (half marathons, organized bike rides and the like) would have prepared me for pre-race jitters.
because there are too many variables that I haven't yet experienced - or even witnessed - yet! And truth be told I didn't decide to actually do this until 3 weeks ago when I got talked into it.
I haven't swum laps in a crowded pool since swim team in 1983! I have only barely begun not to drown (read: inhale water and sputter and choke) when swimming laps in a lane by myself.
I don't know about this whole "getting on my bike while wet" thing, and especially how things will work from a chafing standpoint.... if I slather myself in Body Glide before the swim will it still protect me by the time I run? What about putting my wet feet into socks? Will I blister?
I haven't practiced my transitions. I have done bike-swim-bike workouts but I haven't really done a lot of running (read: any) because I'm still nursing along my whole hip injury thing and this is a mini tri so the run is only 1.25 miles. Since I already know I'll be the slowest person there I'm not worried about doing my walk/run thing.
Oh yeah, and my fueling and hydrating - I have to be more self-sufficient for this one while also trying to resist the urge to say "meh, it's only a 5 mile ride, I don't need water"....
In other news - I am head over heels in love with the most amazing man. We met earlier this summer. It was love at first sight. He is head over heels in love with me, too. But can I just say that there are some things that my bone-on-bone hip is not enjoying so much? The lesson learned from this: if I want to have a healthy sex life, I need to limit my endurance training. I think it's a trade off I'm willing to make. ;)
