Feeling lost and finding me...

Monday, August 06, 2012

I am working to organize some stuff in my home. I am working to get things together to go back to work when school starts in the fall. I am spending some time thinking as things change with my children. I am pondering exactly what I want and how to be a better mother, better wife and better self all around.

I love to make good food for my family. I hope that they will enjoy a meal. I have kind of lost what I like I "just" make what we will eat. You know I can choose to adapt part of the meal to meet my dietary needs. I can teach them to eat healthier. I can do a lot of different choices. I don't have to ignore my health to get food on the table for the family.

I love letting the kids do whatever. I also tend to get depressed or overwhelmed when the mess of the house is too much. I am learning to ask for them to help with the cleaning. I can take away TV and such. Some of the older ones I have to just hope they will do what I have asked. But, they make less messes too. I am trying to teach my little ones that chores if worked will not take forever.

I am not sure why I am feeling lost. But I am also learning that my habits do a lot to make me feel more found. To ground me in today so i am not picking on what I did not get done yesterday or what I have to do tomorrow.

I can just work with today and get where I want to go.

It sounds like you have a plan. The comments that have been left are excellent and should be quite helpful. My best advise is to address each issue as necessary and realize that, where kids are involved, it is going to be a never ending cycle!

I hear you about feeling lost. There is so much and at times I am overwhelmed. so I have to keep coming back to the kiss method.
What helped me with my kids and the chores was to give them a deadline. ie. Needs to be done before dinner
    before your tv show
Another thing that helped me is I was doing 21 loads of laundry a week when my eldest (8 at the time) wanted to do baseball... we had a deal he could do it if he washed his uniform and bed linens. It was a win-win! He was one of the few in college that could do laundry. :)
    Hope this helps.

When my kids were little, I let them choose all the fruits and veggies when I shopped. It gave them such a stake in the meals and they always ate their veggies, especially the ones they chose themselves. At our local farmers market, the vendor would toss each of my boys a red pepper because it delighted him that they ate them like apples.

A good workaround for cleaning and watching tv is the 2 minute tidy where they get to watch their fave show so long as they clean like crazy during the commercial. It's amazing how much gets done during two minute commercial breaks and for some reason, kids love freezing and dropping when the commercial is over.

Finding yourself is the very best thing you can do for your kids and it sounds like you're on the right track :)
