Is Summer Finally Here??

Sunday, July 08, 2012

One weird thing about living in the Pacific Northwest is that we don't really know what summer is really like. I say this as I lived in Arizona for almost 20 years and that place makes hell feel cool (Phoenix, more than Tucson, though neither is too comfortable in the summer months). I never cease to be amazed at how nice it is here and how so many of the locals "pray" for heat, then get really uncomfortable when it gets close to 90 (we're nowhere close to that yet!! Barely in the 70's so far).

So, I suggest that a visit to AZ, NM, TX, or even south eastern CA in July would cure these ills forever. I've never been a lover of the desert landscape and I dearly love living in the evergreen state, but I can understand the "longing for heat" by those who've never had to live through a summer where an 80 degree night is considered comfortable. And no, it doesn't help in the weight loss department,... unfortunately.

It has been in the 90's here for a couple of months - and humid. It's still nice if you're in the shade and don't have too many clothes on, but with the humidity 90 feels about like 100. The BW complains when it's too cool and when it's too hot, and the definitions depend on how she feels that time. I get along pretty much anywhere.
