Why is Portion control so hard?
1. My eyes are bigger than my stomach, so when I divide up a recipe, I feel "deprived". I often get hungry thinking that I won't get enough food!? Usually after I eat though (and wait ten minutes), I find I am quite satisfied! I have to go through this mental gymnastics with portion control quite often, though I am happy to say, the habit is getting easier as time goes by, especially when I get on the scale!
2. Recipes are written for at least four portions, so I have a lot of leftovers! I have to spend a bit of time cutting recipe ingredients in half or even quartered, which can get challenging with small amounts like spices and oil.
3. Going out to eat is even harder! The portions are usually twice what I would normally eat and I have to immediately cut my portion in half and push off plate and/or save for another meal. This can be hard to do when I am in a rush and/or mindlessly eating.
4. When all is said or done, portion control is worth it!! I enjoy fitting back into my clothes! (And putting away my size 14!) I also enjoy my energy level!
