This Week's Chore
Wednesday, May 16, 2012
So I watched BOGUSANNNIE's vlog describing our "chore" for the week, which was to do some decluttering. My first thought was "I'm not going to do this one -- my house is in pretty good shape". That's true actually. For the most part, the main areas of my house are tidy. However, upon further reflection, I decided there are some key areas that could do with some work. So I picked a few, and yesterday tackled one -- my back entrance. This is the entrance through the garage. I use it all the time in the winter when I park my van in the garage, and find myself continuing to use it now. Some people would call it a mudroom I guess.
Here's the before picture:
My house is a bit of a work in progress as we've been undergoing renovations since I bought the place almost 3 years ago. My boyfriend is doing all the work, and sometimes it's slow going because he's working alone and also because we don't always have the money we need to finish things. We spent almost a year with no kitchen (it's beautiful now though, I'll post pictures some day). The back entrance is the last area of the main floor that needs to be renovated. The stack of white stuff just visible in the left corner are the tiles that will go on the floor. Where the coats and bags are hanging used to be a large closet, but we ripped it out because it gave us less room to get in the door and get shoes/boots/coats, etc. off. I like having the hooks so I can immediately see everything. Most of the stuff back here is stuff we use a lot. When it's done (hopefully this summer) it will be a thing of great beauty.
Anyway, it tends to become a bit of a gathering spot for all kinds of stuff, and it was starting to get on my nerves, so I decided to take BOGUSANNIE up on her challenge and deal with it. Here's what it looks like now:
It didn't take too long to get it looking better. Just a matter of putting away the winter clothes and doing a bit of sorting. When I walked out of the house this morning, I was surprised to see it looking so much less chaotic.
I have a few other places in the house I want to tackle -- I'll post more pictures as I get to them.
