May of Meditation Day 2&3: (Toxicity & Fun Foods)

Friday, May 04, 2012

I'm like a science experiment on myself when it comes to my eating habits. Yesterday was my roommate's birthday, and we celebrated at CPK. They have a vegetarian/vegan menu, so I stuck with the lettuce wraps on that (with chinese vegetables only). That was good, and since I survived my previous 30 day challenge of staying vegan in April, I shared some dessert for the sake of my roommate's birthday (it was a special occasion, and since I survived 30 days, I figured why not?)

My system has been functioning on fresh, whole, raw, organic plants and vegetables that when I put even the least bit of refined sugar, dairy, and ingredients you can't pronounce correctly in me, the next day I'm feeling absolutely horrible. Today has been rough for me. I'm not kidding when I say my entire day I've been feeling ridiculously lethargic and sleepy. My neck feels like I slept on it wrong, my shoulders are tense, and I can even feel my mind on this… weird kind of vibe (hard to explain, but if I had to explain it… it feels foggy). All from a caramel sundae (and maybe even the lettuce wraps too, since they contained a ridiculous amount of sodium).

With my vegetarian/vegan menu I also got another menu that broke down everything on their menu by calories, sodium, fat, carbs, etc. I was seriously shocked how everything was over 1000 calories, and even more shocked at how the sodium levels exceeded to nearly 3000! I'm taking the 30 day transition really did change the chemistry around in me, not to mention now I can really look at it from a perspective on the effects processed foods and sweets really DO have on you.

Reflecting on the mindfulness of the energy natural food brings you. While it is there to be colorful, savor, and have fun with it, it also serves a greater purpose for our existence. Meditating on the mindfulness of savoring what you eat, but making sure while I eat things that are there for taste bud pleasure purposes, I'm also responsible for nourishing myself to the best health I can have.

Great reflections today! I'm also extremely sensitive to toxic and processed foods. My reactions are astoundingly painful!
