Find Exercise Anywhere You Can

If you could have seen me earlier. It was a good thing that no video camera was following me around. But exercise, even looking ridiculous, can be found in everyday tasks. AND IT ALL BURNS CALORIES!

First off, I was making cookies. You know that if you put on music, you can use a mixer while walking in place with ‘attitude’. Same thing with putting those chocolate chip cookies on the cookie sheets. A little wiggle here, shoulders left and right, and baking can be a terrific workout..

Next to the living room. I watch my GD, and she likes when we pop in the Selena Gomez CD. We are going to ‘dance’. I get 45 minutes of exercise time if I do the whole CD. First song, we dance. After that, distractions for her. After setting her up with puzzles, and I can do my next chore. Folding the laundry. If you dump the laundry on a chair, it can be picked up and folded without missing a beat while high stepping, strutting with attitude and walking that laundry to one of three places (sorting for each member of the family).

Next, get out the bank and have her play ‘money’. I got my hula hoops in the mail, only to have it coincide with cool weather. We had frost last night – poor flowers! Armed with my mini hoops, it is amazing what you can do with a little space. I can arm hoop, switching arms about every 12 beats or so; watch her; and do my WATP moves. And don’t forget the breathing exercises. They say a good test for not overdoing exercise is if you can talk while exercising. No problem there if you are singing along.

And if she gets into the act, so much the better:

If I wait for the ‘ideal’ time to exercise, it usually doesn’t happen. Look for the ordinary times to exercise. Like while brushing your teeth. You can work on your balance there by standing on one foot. Or drying your hair. That cord is long enough to move it, move it.

Remember to play your favorite music at home. If the beat is good, you won’t be able to help but move it, move it. Even if it is when you are making supper.

The bottom line is to burn those calories. SEIZE THOSE MOMENTS!
