Rock & Roll Mardi Gras 1/2 Marathon... Finisher!

Tuesday, March 06, 2012

This past weekend a group of 11 of us made the journey from Ohio to New Orleans for the Rock & Roll Mardi Gras Marathon. It was so much fun! I have never been to New Orleans and I have always wanted to go, so I jumped at the chance, even if it meant a 13.1 mile run mixed in there.

Unfortunately, I had not trained at all for this 1/2 marathon. Not even a little bit. I was actually afraid that I wouldn't be able to finish it at all, let alone in the 4 hours required to get a medal. I was doing the race with my best friend, who didn't train, and her mom who walks 3-5 miles every day. I was afraid that they would take off and leave me behind.

Once we got going, I was surprised that I was able to keep up. We finished the race in 3:28 - which was much better than anticipated!

We are going to do the Rock & Roll Savannah 1/2 Marathon in November and I have decided that I want to run that one - like the whole thing. A new goal!

Way to go! I have my first half-marathon in April and I am very paranoid about finishing it. They give you a 16 minute mile requirement too - but I think I'll be able to do it in a little over 2hrs. I run an average of 10m30s miles on days I race.

While I haven't trained for that distance, I do run every other day over 2.5miles and walk daily.

That's a really pretty medal too!
