So, what do you know about begonias?

Friday, February 10, 2012

My daughter gave me the most beautiful yellow begonia plant last May for Mother's day. I brought it inside when the weather started to change and it did quite well on the back porch which is not heated but is inside. When the weather got really cold last month, I moved the begonia inside and put it in front of a west facing window. It just seems to be fading and I don't know what I need to do to keep it from getting worse. Any ideas!?

Thanks for the visit to my blog... congrats on the weight loss... I like plants but I don't know about that particular plant. Plants can be so tempermental.. changes in weather or position should be watched pretty carefully for sure.. as you foudn out.

I've brought mine in for the past two years and they do fade and lose leaves. I did spray them for spider mites also. I water once a month or when the soil becomes real dry. They like humidity and sun. At the beginning of March I'll water more frequently and give them some plant food. They looked shabby when I brought them out in May but became full and beautiful. Hope that helps.

My dad is amazing with plants and he told me its so easy to overwater plants in the winter and kill them.
I got this Eugenia plant half off cuz it was dieing at Lowes (I am a sucker for saving things lol). Anyway I had it outside all fall and it was doing so good and I was so proud of it! I think I killed it last week overwatering it emoticon

Sounds pretty, yellow begonia. I'd want to keep it strong too.
Only thing I can suggest is talk to a garden center.
