A Very Stressful and Emotional Week

A week ago today, my stepfather had a very bad fall from a stair case and suffered a brain contusion. In less than 5 days he was transferred between three hospitals. He his finally home, but needs constant care. My mother who suffered a stroke a couple of years ago cannot care for him. I have been my mother’s care taker since then and now my stepfather. My sister flew in from New York City Friday night and is helping out. I don’t know how long she can stay but I am very grateful.

Because of this tragic incident I have not been able to eat, sleep or exercise properly. I am hopeful that things will return to normal little by little.

I thank God for all the wonderful people that cross my path and have offered me and my family their help and support.

    I am sorry to hear that you are going through such a challenging time, and am in awe of you for your strength to rise to the occasion. It is so important to look after yourself, for, without your ongoing health, you cannot help others. Is there someone in your community who can help you? I am in Australia, and we have carers and respite through our government social services and also through our churches. I have found it is better to ask for help at the beginning, and not wait until you are exhausted.

    I have been going through something similar to you, and like you, I tend to lose my appetite when under stress. I guess I just get used to it, and it becomes the "new normal". I'm sorry you are having to go through this.

    Boy, do I agree with Cyclingsandy. My sister became the caretaker for both my parents before they died and it is a lot of stress to deal with. They were blessed to have some wonderful people who came to Dad's house to help care for them during the day while my sister was at work. They fixed meals, bathed and took Mom and Dad to appointments. I am hoping you have some unexpected help and many blessings along the way. May God also give you an abundance of peace and strength.

    I thought I'd had a stressful week, and then I read your blog. Mine was very easy in comparison. It is good that someone came to give you some respite. Hopefully, you will be able to get into a routine of some kind soon. May God bless you immensely!
