The DR's wives Dilemma-

Friday, February 03, 2012

Being married --to a Doctor--is not all it's cracked up to be--
Our telephone Directory, for one, has Shoppers Drug Mart phone numbers from all over Canada--
And another thing happens--people call--relatives and friends we know--call Husband, the DR., , asking him to call their neighbourhood pharmacy and order a medicine for them--- usually in the night--when we are sleeping---that's because their Doctor is sleeping----
They want him to call a Shoppers Drug Store in their home town-----mainly because they are open 24 hrs--

Let me see----husband has had to call a prescription in, for my brothers dogs----in Nova
Scotia---One time, we were in Hawaii asleep, and one of his calls came in---
We have Shoppers Drugs, on speed dial---for cities such as Winnipeg, Toronto--Sudbury, Waterloo---Halifax, and Vancouver---

Last night it happened again----
We were in bed---fast asleep----and the phone rang---
It was husband's brother----at an airport---in Toronto---asking him to call in a antibiotic prescription--again at a 24 hr. Shoppers Drug Mart---in their home town---
I heard husband say, "'but call your own Dr'''------and then--I heard the voice on the other end say, "but my Dr. is at home in bed""----And again I heard husband
try to become familiar again, with another Shoppers 24 Pharmacist---

So------I am a bit sleepy here this morning---dragging my feet---
Oh--Doctors CAN get back to sleep--immediately----after any of these calls---
But-----their wives are up for the night----going over these crazy conversations-----trying not to go down to the kitchen where the food is----
so-----coffee is in my hand here---Son#2 the pilot is almost home from Ft McMurray-son#1 is in Hawaii----the Treadmill here is waiting----
Have a good day--
SPARK as if yer life depends on it-----IT DOES you know!

**SIGH** Wouldn't make me happy either!! When my DH was in practice and doing court cases there were calls @ insane times of the day and night. Of course, everyone in the extended universe calls for free legal advice, doesn't matter the time of day (or night).

Well, hope you get a chance to sneak in a nap to catch up. The only problem for me is, if I take a nap then it sabotages my sleep @ night. No winning is there!!

I would never call my Dr at home, I won't even call my SIL, a nurse, to ask things, it's her home time, why should she have to deal with work stuff. I call my Dr's office for presciption refills if needed, that's the way it's supposed to be

I didn't think you were allowed to prescibe drugs if you havn't actually seen the patient..weird.

I have to say that, after reading your blog, I am glad I am married to an engineer and not a doctor (although hubby just got off a three year project that had him traveling to Sweden two weeks out of six for the last three years) Keep that will power going!! You are doing great!! Happy Dreadmilling!!!

Yep, Doctors are a godsend, and I'm a reluctant caller... try to stick to their office hours... because I know they are people and have families just like the rest of us.

But serious emergencies can't wait... and that's what ERs and such are for.

    Spark on!
