Memory Lane

Thursday, January 19, 2012

Today was a walk down memory lane. Four years ago this week, my mom was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. She died 2 months later. I have had 6 big black garbage bags full of her clothes under my sewing cutting table. I finally was ready to take care of them. So,today, I brought them all out and washed them. She didn't get rid of any of her clothes. There were clothes from each decade starting with the 50's. As I folded them I remembered her wearing many of the outfits. I have organized them and plan on making quilts. As I worked God brought many wonderful memories of her. I miss her so much, but am glad that she is with the Lord and that I will see her again.

I was able to check off five items on my list. Plus I got a backing ready for a quilt and loaded it onto my frame (which wasn't on my list). A very productive day emoticon

This afternoon I walked on the treadmill for 40 min. Then tonight my daughter and I went to the gym. I did a 45 min strength and 20 min cardio workout.

Daily Goals:
1. Exercise
A. 75 - 120 min a day emoticon 105 min
B. Gym (4-5x's a week): emoticon
C. Home Exercise - emoticon

2. Water
--Drink 10-12 glasses a day (80-96 oz) 12 glasses emoticon

4. Food
--stay within calorie range of 1400-1600 calories a day emoticon
--5 servings Freggies = 5 servings emoticon
--curb mindless snacking, drink water emoticon

Misc.
1. Blog daily - emoticon
2. Write lists of what I need to do each day -- emoticon

What a loving idea to take your beloved mom's clothes to make them a "hug" for your family. That will be a treasured keepsake. It's always a bittersweet time to go down memory lane isn't it? Hugs!

That's a great idea!! I wish I were a quilter but I'm not. I'm a knitter and when my grandmother died, I inherited her knitting supples and her sewing machine *she taught me to sew on that machine when I was little). Each time I use that machine or the knitting stuff...I am reminded of the great memories we created together!

When you are done with this quilt, you must post pics. I am sure it will be a work of art (or should I say work of heart?). All in all, you have had a wonderful day.

That is really neat that you are going to turn her clothes into quilts to snuggle up in and look at and remember. Amazing, actually - great idea! I have a quilt that my grandmother made from leftover fabrics of clothes she made for me as I was growing up, as well as her own clothes. I love that quilt! I look at it and can remember how old I was when I wore that and even some of the feelings I had at the time, and how she looked when she wore her dresses. It's weird how a visual is connected with memories that are long-ago buried (they were good ones). Enjoy the time you spend making it.

I saved three dresses representing three special times when Mom was part of our three kids' lives and hope to make a quilt some day for each of us kids. At least this is a dream I hope to make a reality someday (perhaps in the next ten years). What a beautiful memory you are creating!

My mom passed the way three years go and my dad did so three months later. I know how you feel and if we keep the memories, we keep them alive.
    Have a nice day! emoticon
