In my last post I mentioned the debilitating back pain. I went to the chiropractor and was diagnosed with Piriformis Syndrome. It is a common ailment for runners. (I wasn't running but fast walking on the treadmill). In a nutshell, the glutes (butt muscles) get so tight that they squeeze the sciatic nerve which sends pains shooting down the legs.

This is a strong reminder to stretch after every workout! A foam roller on your glutes or a tennis ball works really well to loosen those muscles. I have since purchased both.

I played golf yesterday and kept stretching though out the round. I didn't play that great though. Today, I tried the treadmill again. The doctor said to go slower but at an incline and to take large strides.

I stretched and stretched afterwards. I felt ok with minimal pain. However, I feel my back tightening as I write this so it is probably time to stretch again.

Foam roller, here I come!

I hear over and over about the foam roller, people love them and from what I am reading they are becoming a bigger part of the must haves as you build your fitness. I like the idea of the tennis ball as well if I could get it away from the dog!
