Pain, pain go away...

Saturday, October 29, 2011

So, now the shoulder starts hurting? I'ts been 8 days and I keep getting told by the Physical Therapists and those who see me at my shop how well I'm doing following the surgery. Hm-m-m, maybe I'm believing the hype as I definitely over did it yesterday. Now I'm feeling like one of the losing pitchers for the Texas Rangers, my arm hurts and I'm not too happy.

Great, I can lift my arm high enough to touch my neck. Well, I didn't touch my neck that much in the past, so I guess I could've taken it slower and waited a bit to relive that experience.

I tried heat, I tried cold, I tried tylenol, I tried to meditate (and all I could focus on was the fire in my shoulder, not too good). No,... I won't take a pain pill, but I will try the whirlpool. Let's hope that does the trick.

Forget Tylenol and take old fashioned aspirin. Don't beleive that hype about upset stomach, just take it with some food. Drug companies invented acetominophin because they could not patent aspirin.

Giving it a name, a shape, a colour, a volume button etc are all things that have helped me in the past. I suffered from pain terribly ( one of the reasons I studied hypnosis) and learned how to move it.

Most people want to get rid of pain and unfortunately ( or fortunately) you can't. What you can do is acknowledge it and speak to it - bit weird in the beginning but it helps. Pain is needed or we die. No pain = no boundaries and no fear = no safety = dead...

So looking at pain as your body working perfectly you can ask it to sort of fade into the background and give you a gentle reminder when needed. Sort of like your toothache fading as soon as you get the dentist appointment - it hasn't gone but it isn't as sore...

Hope this makes some sort of sense and hoping you get well soon. Mark
