I did it!

Friday, October 21, 2011

I start each morning with some positive thoughts while I enjoy my morning solitude. But by the end of the day, I'm a frazzled mess and that's when I turn to food.

My typical breakfast is cereal, fruit and coffee. Typical lunch is soup and salad. In between I have my share of healthy snacks and water.

By dinnertime, the kids are demanding. My dogs are barking and in need of attention. My phones are ringing. Someone always needs to squeeze just one more ounce out of me than I have to give.

Once I'm stressed to the max, that's when I start craving the sweets and the carbs and my entire day of healthy eating just unravels at my feet.

Not last night. I was determined not to give in. It was hard, but I did it! I go to bed early every night, usually about 8pm. Last night about 7pm I put Soundscapes on the cable channel and just let myself unwind with a cup of tea.

My mother-in-law introduced me to Celestial Seasonings Bengal Spice. It's delicious. The aroma really appeals to my senses. Sometimes I'm just inhaling the fragrance instead of sipping. When my sweet attack started creeping up on my, I grabbed a grapefruit, sweetened it with Splenda and went to bed with a good book.

The tea had me in and out of the ladies room all evening, but that's okay. I feel great this morning.

It's going to be a good day!

I am so proud of you, Hattie! Good job Sparkly girl. Tonight, when I wanted to keep eating even though I was not (and am not) hungry, I thought of you and I DID NOT EAT. So, thank you dear emoticon - I needed your help and you helped me.

My life is wild and crazy too... and I LOVE tea in the evenings... Celestial Seasonings is awesome - Tension Tamer, Madagascar Vanilla, Sleepytime, Sleepytime Vanilla! Perfect way to quietly end a hectic day.

Awesome blog. I'm famous for walking thru the doors, drop bag and get in the kitchen immediately preparing dinner, washing dishes and usually by the time I finally sit down its about 7 or 7:30 pm and then everyone wants to eat from your plate and want attention when I'm trying to enjoy and savor my meal. I've been making sure that I sit for a few minutes before bustling thru the kitchen trying to take care of everyone especially when my day starts @ 4am includes 2 exercise sessions and I get home from work usually bet. 5:30 and 6:00. It appears that based on my ramblings, I needed this blog too. Thanks for sharing and have a Blessed Day!!

Sounds like you handled it well and should feel very proud! When my kids get home from school and it becomes crazy (homework, dinner, etc), my stress level starts to go through the roof too. I probably should look at where I'm at &/or what I'm doing at that golden hour (4:30 pm here - bus drop off time) and see if I can tweak what I'm doing. Maybe I need to slow down and stop tasks before that time so I'm more relaxed and can give them the attention they want and really....deserve. I'm realizing, by reading your blog, that as I can only control myself, if I want less stress in the evenings, I'm going to have to adjust my evening schedule. By taking my "work" or final cleaning out of the equation, there's bound to be slightly less stress. Still have to do dinner but if I don't have 10 things I'm trying to do right up to that, it will have to help! Going to try this new approach tonight...but I know it will be tough because habits are tough to break! Thanks for your blog as it really got me thinking about my stressful evenings and what I could do to improve them! Just have to DO IT now! :-)
