Telephone Usage in Movie Theaters
Wednesday, October 19, 2011
Yesterday evening I went to see Moneyball at the movie theater. Despite all the reminders on the screen about turning off our cell phones, the guy in front of and to the right of me decided to text during the movie.
I found it super distracting. Every time he used it, my attention was drawn to the bright screen of his phone. I saw three options:
1. Ask the usher to talk to him
2. Muster up courage to say something myself
3. Don't say anything and continue being distracted
I selected #2 and carefully worded my complaint. I bent over during his texting and factually said, "The bright screen of your phone is distracting." My heart beat hard, as though I had nearly escaped being hit by a truck.
He looked over and answered, "Sorry." At that moment he got up and went out of the theater with his phone. He came right back and didn't use it again. I was so happy he didn't cause a scene. After all, he was in the wrong.
BTW Being a baseball fan, I truly loved the movie. Being that it's World Series time, I have to say to my favorite team, "Go, Cards!!!"
