SOMEWHERE OVER THE RAINBOW
Wednesday, October 12, 2011
Today our weather was a mixture of storms, sideways rain, and sunbreaks. Since I worked until 5pm and got home at 5:30, we loaded the dogs up and headed to the park for my Week 8, /c25, 1st training run. It is a 5 minute warm up walk, 28 minute jog, 5 minute cool down walk.
When we got to the park the heavens opened up and poured. But I just had a feeling that if we waited a few minutes the storm would pass. Sure enough after about 5 minutes the rain become just a slight drizzle and I jumped out of the car and started my warm up. As I started jogging the clouds cleared and the most beautiful rainbow crossed the whole sky. The music on the podcast was wonderful, the air was crisp and clear, and I felt energy pulsing through my veins. I really felt as though this was my best jog so far and I could feel the strength of my muscles moving me through the 28 minute run.
I just can't express how wonderful it feels to be jogging. I know I am not fast, which doesn't matter. I know I don't kick up my legs and have a beautiful form, but that doesn't matter. I know I won't win any races, but that doesn't matter. What I do know is I am running. And I know I am in week 8 and only have 2 more runs until I will do my 5 K. And I know that I feel so proud of myself to push past my own fears and accomplish something that I never thought I would ever do in my life, let alone at age 60.
