My New Goal: 1st Real 5K

Yesterday, my new fitness buddy, Sami, DD, and I walked to the nearest park to our house. I figured it to be about 1/2 a mile each way. I mapped it when we got there and it turned out to be 0.88 miles one way. Then we played on the playground for a while. They had some great gymnastics equipment: monkey bars (too short for me), uneven bars, and parallel bars, and also this really fun sliding thing where you hang on it, push off, and slide down an upside down track. We swung on the swings too.

As we were walking home, we stopped for a minute at the House of Mews (a cat store). As we were looking at the cats in the window, I noticed a sign on the window advertising a 5K run/walk next month. Since we have plenty of time to train, I asked Sami if she would do it with me and she said she would like to. As we were talking about this, a young lady approached us that had just come out of the store and started asking for advice. She said she doesn't exercise on a regular basis, she just wants to support the store by entering. We exchanged numbers and discussed a day/time to train together. We both felt a lot better knowing other amateurs would be there, so we will begin training on Saturday. I printed out the race course and I plan to use that path to train.

All in all, yesterday was a great day!

    That does sound like a great day. I signed up for a SparkPeople 5K at the end of this month. I need to figure out where I'm going to walk it soon.
