Started Hal Higdon Novice 10k training today

Anyone eles doing this program? It seems so much simpler than Bridge to 10k so i am going to give it a try. It doesnt involve interval training either (hate those intervals!!). it does involve 3 runs a week (two easy/shorter runs during the week and a long run on the weekend) plus stretching, strength and cross training.

Today I did the first run...2.5 miles. I decided to do it on the track of a local park (Shedd Park, Rubyclaire!). It was easier than running on the road, even though it was somewhat boring. I am not sure I will do every run there, hopefully I will pick out some reasonably even (nonhumungous hills) and safe route nearby to try to, but the track was an easy place to start and I didnt have to worry about when to turn around and head back to my car, jsut went around and around and around..lol

Today was a really stressful day in the divorce/custody area of my life and I really needed a release. I can not believe I actually thought to take a run to help destress, but i did and it did work a bit. Of course I had a horrible fast food lunch hours before that I am not proud of but..baby steps....

If anyone out there has done this program, would love to hear how it went!!!

What distance is the Shedd park track? I should probably hop over there and use it sometime. I find running along the river is nice, but too short (I will NOT run over the Roarke bridge. Won't do it.)

Good for you, Kerry! Heck, I can't bring myself to WALK around a boring track, let alone run around it.

Once you get into the groove of your program, I can see you running up and down Belvidere hill.
I am NOT a runner, but I commend you and everyone who has the gumption to keep at it.
Heck, you and Jeckie should get together.

    Good luck!!
