5K Your Way: Week 4 Day 1

Robert Burns said it well when he said, "The best laid plans of mice and men often go awry." I had planned to run with my trainer for the first 30 minute run. Given last week's hurdles I wanted to make sure that this exercise remained safe and sane!!! Alas and anon, the plans fell through and I had a choice to make...forgo the run until the trainer was available OR do as I had encouraged others to do and NOT psych myself out before I started. I opted for the latter, laced my shoes and headed out the door.

All I want to say is: emoticon emoticon emoticon
I DID IT!!! I DID IT!!! I DID IT!!! in 37 minutes I ran 2.55 miles. I pushed the extra two minutes because I ended up walking less than 30 seconds on at least three occasions-- once at the 17 minute mark, again at the 20 minute mark (my shoe came untied) and again at about 30 minutes.

I did it, and I have lived to tell about it! I ran the mile course I normally run, the mile course I ran yesterday and the block between them. On yesterday's course I chose to run only on the shaded side of the street.

In order to maintain a consistent pace I opted to listen to the audio Bible as I ran. I let Psalm 119 repeat...given that it is the longest chapter in the Bible I heard it just over two times during the course of the run. What can I say, It worked for me! I am satisfied, too, with the fact that I ran 15 minute miles for the first 35 minute run. I trust it will get better as I go along, after all, I can walk/run 5K in faster time!
