Sleep is the cure~

My 42 year old next door neighbor, Linda, has been trying to loose that pesky "15-20" pounds for two years now. She used caloriecount.com, weighed all her foods, exercised with me 4-5 days a week for a year and no change in weight. Why? She found out that her thyroid was off. Now that it is fixed, she is back at square one. Too tired to count calories.... and only exercises once a week now. No motivation. Gosh.... motivation, once you loose it, is very hard to gain again! Don't you think?
Linda once told me that if you want to do anything in life..... loose weight, loose depression, get over illness, gain energy, try to conceive..... SLEEP!
This has stuck with me. "Sleep is the cure."
Even though I have lost 91 pounds, and counting, run a 5-10K 6 days a week... pushing myself to train for a marathon, I fight emotional eating like a mad person every day and still have to remind myself to SLEEP more!
For instance.....lately, I have been fighting depressed feelings over the illness of a very close family member. When I am sad, I eat. Don't eat good, either. I grab for 6 chocolate chip cookies, 2 huge bowls of Rocky Road ice cream, 4 slices of pizza...... coffee with heavy cream and sugar.... you name it! Even though I stop myself from eating anything at 7PM daily.... I am still thinking about what yummy foods to have in the morning. Force myself to stay up and watch TV until 11PM when it hits me...
GO to SLEEP. Who cares if your in bed at 8PM!!! You will have SO much more energy in the morning! Your not missing anything on TV. It will always be there. Read a book to drift off instead!
