Beavers & Bears

I wanted to walk today. WANTED! What a weird feeling.

We didn't see any beavers though. They may have been culled because there were getting to be quite a few & they felled a tree across the road last week.

A few years back, the city tried to trap them. In order to prevent their efforts from being sabotaged by people protecting the beavers, they didn't inform the public about the traps. Of course, someone's dog got maimed in a trap; thank goodness it wasn't a child.

Anyway, I missed seeing them tonight. I hope some of them are okay.

Where my neighbour Wes cycles, there are many bears. One night last week, I talked to him & he had seen 6 on that ride. The week before, he had an evening where he saw 12:

- a mom & triples
- a mom & twins
- a mom & a singlet
- three randy males (not together)

I'll stick to the photos thanks.

    I'm so envious of the wildlife that you're fortunate to have in BC! It's not that we have none in Ontario, it's just not the same. One day I'll make it out there!!

    I have always said I want to see a bear, as long as it is up a mountainside and across a river from me (and I am sitting in an armored tank). They fascinate and terrify me. We once camped at Yellowstone and I literally did not sleep for one single moment the entire night. It did not help that we had been in 90 degree weather during the day and it dipped to 32 degrees that night, but what really freaked me out was there had been a bear attack on a tent camper not far from Yellowstone, earlier in the week, and when walking through the campground it did not appear to me that some nearby campers were being too careful with their trash. I was so glad to break camp at dawn, and slowly navigate through bison and see elk. It really is a fabulous place.

    My goodness! The bears are out in force!

    I find beavers charming too--once I saw two of them swimming in a pond near my home, & I've never forgotten them.
