The Piano Man cometh!

Wednesday, September 07, 2011

This is the ""Piano Tuner"""--a popular guy to people who play the piano-
I don't think there are too many of these guys.
He had just finished tuning the piano when I snapped his picture-thus the front was off the piano-He travels over 100 miles to tune pianos in this town--does about 4 a day---Because he is so much in demand (before lessons start)--he can pretty well name his price--Yesterday I paid him $170 to tune my piano.--a lot , I think!--But---one doesn't complain, as one might not ever see him again--Yesterday, I was the first on his list, so I felt pretty special--It took him about 2 hrs to tune the piano--and I gave him tea, cookies (freshly baked) and blueberry pie--Hopefully he will remember and come back--
I took lessons as a kid, from the Nuns--I never practised , as a kid-- and the nuns used to wrap my knuckles when I played--- with a long stick-- I was petrified of them! I hung in there till Gr 6 Piano---then never touched a piano again, until my Dad passed away. He left me some $$$$--so I bought my piano, and signed up for lessons--that was about 5 yrs ago--I am now in Gr 8 piano and really enjoy my lessons--
There is a point to all of this----LOL----- You see--When practising piano---your fingers are out of the kitchen--and the TV is not on to see all the ""Food Comercials"--When the hydro goes out--your piano always works----It does calm you down---so there are lotza reasons to ""bang away""--- LOL
Anyway---Enjoy the day to-day Sparklers!--Even in an economy which is on a downward spiral, we can walk--- play the piano--and eat healthy!--

How wonderful. I would imagine that every time you play, you think of your Dad.

"If you want to play, you have to pay the tuner."
There is nothing worse than a piano out of tune.

Take care and have a GREAT day. I am off to the shower and then to my volunteer job in ICU.

    Huggers, Sunny

emoticon Hope you make some beautiful music today!

OMG OMG OMG! You brought bnack such memories as I took piano lessons too. My piano teacher was a nun and she did the exact same thing! If you missed a note she'd rap the knuckles with the pointer thingy (that's a technical term I think!) She even told my Mom, "Your daughter has absolutely no talent for playing the piano." Well, she was probably right, but my Mom was infuriated! She told this Nun that "She enjoys playing and I am going to give her lessons." Never another snotty remark from that nun to my Mom! HEE HEE Come to think of it, nobody repeats a snotty remark to my Mom!

Thanks for the memories (hey, that sounds like a song!)

And you're right . . . busy fingers playing the piano cannot get into trouble. I love my piano too.
