A Facebook message made me cry!!

Monday, September 05, 2011

Ok, I have been MIA a long while, so I doubt anyone remembers me or what my life consists of. Long story short, I am a stay at home mom to a 3.5yo boy and a 2yo girl. My fiance is a trucker, and gone from Sunday night through Friday night, so the entire housework/food prep/child-rearing responsibilities are mine and mine alone. I also am attending college online through the University of Phoenix, for an AA in Health Care Administration-Medical Records.

In 2007, I was 19 and pregnant with my son. With my fiance's job having him gone most of the time (then he was gone 2 weeks and home 3 days), and my mom's new marriage keeping her busy and away from me, I sought support where I could. I found a forum for women who were expecting babies in Nov. of 2007, and found a group of wonderfully supportive and positive women who I could commiserate with and ask questions without fear of ridicule. After the birth of our kids, we stayed in touch, to talk about our babies, and to offer support and help with the many issues that arise with infants and toddlers. I still converse (through Facebook) with 7 of these fine ladies at least once a week.

Earlier today, I made the following Facebook status update:
Another set of classes down, 6 sets left (University of Phoenix does 2 classes for 9 weeks). I have 24/60 credits, and a 3.5 GPA. Starting Cultural Diversity and The Language of Health Care today.

One woman, whose son is about 2 weeks older than mine, has a daughter a few months younger than mine, is going to an actual college campus to get a degree in accounting and has a 4.0 GPA, sent me the following message not long after that post.

Hi Rachel! I was thinking of you today while I was out running errands. I was so grateful to get out of the house without kids and I needed it soooooo much. Gregg is very involved with taking care of the kids and I STILL needed a break. So, it made me think of you and how you're doing it all on your own. (I mean, I know you have Chris but with him on the road so much....) I know I've never actually met you before, but I feel like I've not only watched our kids grow up "together", but I've also had the pleasure of watching you grow into an amazing woman. You should be so proud of yourself - you are an awesome mom of 2 beautiful, smart children and also a student. You and I both know that it is waaaaay more challenging being a full-time mother & student than it is to work out of the house. ;);) Anyways, I just wanted to let you know that I was thinking of you and that I'M proud of you. :):)

emoticon My mom and fiance both say their proud of me, but not like this. And this coming from a woman I have never met! I really wish I could hug this woman! Just had to share this.
