Boo and Moo

Monday, September 05, 2011

My daughter Brooke fell in love with a beautiful cat who made her way to our porch. Brooke named her Moo and we are caring for her for the time being. We are thinking of keeping her unless her owner comes forward.

I really think Moo wants to be Baily's friend. She just does not seem to know how to make that happen. For the time being Baily is afraid to walk out the door so we have been using the back door more.

Jack sticks around for some water and a treat in spite of Moo's unfriendly welcome.

Cute cat! Moo is a great name for it too. It seems from the pictures that it is somewhat tolerant of your dogs. Perhaps you now have a new family member!

We have 2 dogs. DH is allergic to cats or we'd have many. GD in CA has a cat I'll be sleeping near when I visit. Pharoah is a Bengal cat and thinks he owns the place. I am intimidated by his smartness.

I love cats but am allergic to them. If I were an animal, I'd be a cat.

It won't take too long for them to get used to each other - the best strategy I've used is just to ignore all of them and go about my business as if all was well. We've managed to merge cats and dogs of all sorts this way. We've gotten cats used to dogs, dogs used to cats, both species used to bunnies and every combo has been different but they all eventually came around once they realized there was no 'danger' involved.

Moani had obviously never been around cats and was over-reactive, wanting to bark and chase them. It's interesting to see how our various cats have reacted - Whiskers retreated to the laundry room and still won't come out if Moani is around [2-1/2 yrs later!!], although she had no problem with any of our other dogs or even my brother's BIG dogs when they visited - Midnight gives Moani the 'stare down' and won't back away so Moani eventually gave up on him - Bitsy has smacked Moani a couple of times and that ended the problem - Oreo keeps wanting to be snuggle-friends with Moani and actually has Moani a little afraid of him. It's funny to see Oreo chasing Moani around, trying to snuggle like he used to do with my Catahoula Katie [RIP] - Keiki is quite a tease and she LOVES to run past Moani, trying to get a chase going, because Keiki knows she has places to go where Moani can't reach her. It's like she gets up on her high place, then turns around and laughs at Moani, as if to say 'haha, you can't catch me!!' So 5 cats and 5 totally different 'relationships' with Moani, who no longer reacts to the cats at all.

Interestingly, my Catahoula Katie was a 'cat charmer' who was fantastic at getting cats to like her, including Bitsy, who had never allowed any other dogs around my dad, and Tiger, who hid from everyone and everything all the time. Funny how pets can build their relationships like that!!

I think it won't be too long before you post a blog about how Moo and Baily have become best friends!!

    Your dog is absolutely beautiful!

Hopefully, if you decided to keep the cat, the two pets will learn to get along well together.

So cute and yet so fierce! She/he is way to well cared for to not belong to someone. My cat used to disappear for a day or two and would come home with a belly full of whatever they gave her. Finally I had to put a collar with a note on it to let them know he was loved. I was happy to share Puppy with people just don't lock him in the house so he cannot come home.

Poor Boo, is afraid of Moo, with just cause. Hope it all works out.

Awesome video! I feel for the poor dogs though. Our Bendix was a big cat chaser and I felt sorry for him when Mom rescued a cat and brought it to live in the home as a house cat. They had to discipline him so much to keep him from going after the poor baby. It got so he was afraid to go near it and she ruled the roost in the last year of his life, forcing him off his blankets if she came near and always taking over his house in their sleeping area downstairs. Mom had made the cat her own sleeping area up high, but she always took Bendix's. I am on the side of the dogs. Hope the cat can learn to get along with the dogs..

Too funny! I remember when we got our Misty as a wee pup, our cat was deathly afraid of her! We couldn't get the cat down off the entertainment center until sometime after we went to bed. They eventually became best friends, and these critters might also!

HAHAHA...Looks like what goes on at our house daily with Jaxon!!! The only difference is that Jax is not afraid of any of our kitties or their sharp nails, it would be better if he was afraid. Thanks for sharing.....Kelly

The cat knows how to protect himself...but he is beautiful and seems to love people so he will get used to dogs too. Just might take a while.

My dad had a cat when he was young that was the terror of the neighborhood. It attacked every dog or human who entered his territory--even my grandfather!

So true Baily is a total lover. Moo came from the wild so she needs time to learn the language of sweetness.
