August got its a$$ kicked; also, state fair triumphs and THE BEST NEWS EVER

Before I say anything, I have some exciting news...

*drum role please*

I was getting super worried because they hadn't called me by Friday, and I didn't know what that meant. So at like 4:30 yesterday the woman FINALLY called me and left me a message because I missed the call and she was like "Hi Liz, this is so and so, and I just want to talk to you about your interview, blah blah", not sounding super enthusiastic or anything. And then when I got on the phone with her she was like "Hi there...so I just wanted to talk a little about your interview...Mary thought you were wonderful *pause*" And here's where my heart sank because it sounded like one of those let-you-down-easy sentences... "Mary thought you were wonderful BUT we can't offer you the job", "Mary thought you were wonderful BUT the other candidate was better" etc, etc. So I definitely wasn't expecting to hear "Mary thought you were wonderful AND we would like to offer you the position"!! I was super excited, of course, and told my mom right away who practically cried with relief, haha...she had been really worried. And then told some friends and waited until today to put it on FB and SP.

So yaaayyy!! It's a great feeling to know that you made an impression and beat out another candidate and I'm so happy to have the job. I celebrated for about a minute, and then I started getting anxious (of course) because even though it's awesome it IS going to be a lot of really hard work, and I'm starting this week after Labor day and things seem kind of disorganized so I'm starting to freak a bit...haha...but that's just me...I'm sure it'll be a crazy couple of weeks but then I will get the hang of it. Yaaay!

Okay...time for an August recap! I set out this month to totally blow it out of the water and I did! Nutrition and exercise wise, this was the best month of my ENTIRE LIFE. No joke.

emoticon emoticon Nutrition! emoticon emoticon

I stayed in my range 31/31 days! emoticon emoticon

emoticon emoticon Exercise! emoticon emoticon

I worked out 31/31 days! emoticon emoticon

Out of those days, 28/31 were at least 60 minutes, and 10/31 were 80 minutes or more!

emoticon emoticon Water! emoticon emoticon

I got 8+ glasses of water 31/31 days! emoticon emoticon

emoticon emoticon Measurements! emoticon emoticon

I lost a total of 14.2 inches overall! emoticon Most notably around my hips/stomach, and bust (unfortunately...I really don't have a lot to begin with, so I'm sad to have to lose any inches in that area!) My only disappointment is that I didn't lose ANYTHING in my upper or lower arms...other than my hips/stomach, that's my biggest problem area, so I'm super bummed about that. But this just reinforces the need to ST, something I know I need to incorporate into my routine...

emoticon emoticon Weight! emoticon emoticon

I started August weighing 241.4 lbs and at the end I weighed 226.0 lbs which is a loss of 15.4 lbs!!! emoticon emoticon emoticon That's an average of over 3 lbs a week!!

I really want to post a picture of my august spark calendar on here, but the picture I took on my camera of my computer screen is apparently "too big to save", a.k.a the file is too big...can anyone help me figure out how to do this?

Anyway, I think it's safe to say that I decimated August. September goals will be pretty much the same, lots of cardio, stay in my range every day, and drink lots of water. I'm also doing an 8 week challenge with the group '20 somethings with 50-99 lbs to lose' and I'm SUPER excited about that...this is my first challenge I've ever done on SP, and I think it will really motivate me even further, since the last thing I want to do is let down my team. I also think I'm secretly competitive, and I just don't know it, haha...but the challenge is great because you have new goals every week, and one of them is strength training so yay! Another is getting lots of fruits and veggies and that's another thing I've been struggling with...I need to focus on that in Sept, and also try to back my carbs and fat down a little....even though I was only eating between 1300-1400 cals in August I was still reaaaaaaaally high in fat, sometimes even going over!

Yesterday I went to the MN State Fair with my friend and it was lots of fun! I only splurged on ONE thing, which is this super delicious ice cream cone from the dairy barn which of course is made from REAL local milk/cream, etc....it's super rich and awesome. Other than that, I drank a 20 oz beer, and ate a baked potato with a tiny bit of butter on it. In the morning I had a protein bar, and when I got home I had a 1/2 cup of brown rice and a healthy sandwich. Even though it didn't seem like I had THAT much to eat, I still finished the day off at the high end of my calorie range...almost 1600 calories! But luckily I didn't go over...I'm super proud because I've always used the fair as an excuse to go crazy and eat 5000 (no joke) calories but I didn't this year!

Here's a pic of me at the fair! I'm sitting on the Spam Throne (since Spam originated in MN, apparently it's a big deal) and wearing the traditional paper pig ears hat you get when visiting the Swine Barn...I get 'em every year! :) Notice my jeans--the same pair that I couldn't wear at the beginning of the summer because they were way too tight...now they are just fine!

So far my September is going great--staying in range and working out like a BAMF. Last night I forgot to bring my ipod to the Y and was EXHAUSTED after walking around the fair all day, but I pushed through and worked out for an hour! With NOTHING to distract me...no music, no books, no TV, NOTHING.

Tonight I'll be sleeping over at my Aunt's house since I'm cat-sitting for her...it'll be nice to relax a bit before the craziness of work starts...I'll bring my lappy and watch some movies and read. Hope everyone is having a great long weekend!

Congrats on the new job. Who are you now going to be working for?

Awesome job at the state fair. That place is notorious for bad food. Last year the hubby got a deep fried snickers on a stick. What did I get, turkey leg and a pickle (on a stick).

You did so amazing in August. So impressive that you stayed within your calorie range EVERY DAY! Wow! You seriously are inspiring!

For resizing pictures, I use the website - http://www.picnik.com/
You don't have to sign-up or anything, you just upload your picture and then you can edit it, resize, etc. and then you just save the new file to your computer. Hope that helps!
