I'm Shopping Differently Now

I just finished clipping and filing the coupons from today's newspaper circulars and, as usual, most are for cookies, snacks, prepared foods and frozen foods that are fried, coated or "crisp" . The refrigerated foods include biscuits, pizza dough and sweet rolls. The beverages are for ades, punches, mixed fruit and vegetable drinks... Yes, I still clipped and filed these but I've noticed that I'm shopping differently now.

I'm able to resist the day-old muffins that always lured me into thinking "I'll have half each day and that won't be bad" . I walk right past the flavored rices and buy plain brown knowing that I can season it with herbs or broth. I'm enjoying the lowest fat dairy products. And I spend more time reading labels now - it's not going into my shopping cart until I check the serving size, calorie & carb count and the ingredient list to be sure I know what I'll be putting into my body.

Since it's summer I can shop the Farmers Markets and I've got herbs growing out on my deck. Vegetables and salads are included at each meal - heck, I even sneak some vegies into omelets and breakfast items

    Hi PMORENA, I understand you frustration witht the coupons. I learned 2 strategies that have stood well for me. 1. Shop the perimeter of the store, then if need be, shop the aisles. 2. Market! I get my meat from the butcher because it is all non medicated, my produce from the farmers market, I make my own bread and I do NOT need any of the sweets, even if I want them. Hopefully these two things will help you out. Mind you I am retired so I have the time to do these whereas when I was working it was all for convenience.

    Way to go...one small step at a time.... I too clip coupons and am frustrated that they are usually for junk food or you have to buy two of a product to use the coupon. As a single gal, I don't need two of most products, especially junk food.
