Went from being an angel to wanting to slug a guy!

Friday, August 05, 2011

I don't enjoy shopping. I find it a chore, especially grocery shopping. It's a necessary evil, which I had to do after work this past Wednesday (8/3). As I was picking out the cat food my Zoe will eat (picky eater that she is) there was an elderly man who was being assisted by a store clerk. The gentleman commented to me that getting old was hell. I readily agreed with him. As I was placing the cat food I'd selected into my cart, the older gentleman asked if I'd do a favor for him. Turns out he didn't want the cat food he'd selected - he'd mistaken it for the dog food he was needing to purchase. He asked me to put the incorrect cat food back on the shelf as he'd had a difficult time getting it down and putting it back would have been much harder for him. I was happy to help. After re-shelving the cat food, I noticed he was having difficulties getting the containers of dog food, so I asked him if he'd like some help. He did and the entire time I got the containers of dog food for him he told me that I was an angel and sure to go to heaven! I told him, I didn't know about the angel part, but that I did know that I was going to heaven. The entire encounter was sweet and I wished I could have offered to help him in the future, but I didn't think it appropriate to offer since I didn't know him or his circumstances.

I finished up my shopping, paid and walked to the parking lot in time to see some guy (in his early 40's) start yelling, pick up a potato that had obviously fallen from the bag that he and the woman with him had just purchased - the fallen potato looked undamaged. He swore and smashed the potato, then continued to swear and berate the woman as they walked to their vehicle. I was FURIOUS - it was obvious that the woman was cowering and totally ashamed of the whole incident, so I GLARED at the bully. He asked me "what are you looking at?" I told him not much - BUT I wanted to hit him! I figure if he treats the woman like that in public - how much worse does he treat her in private? UGH!

So I went from being an angel destined for heaven to a pissed off "young" senior citizen.

I am proud of you I probably would have said something that would not have been a good idea. At times I have trouble with my mouth. I open it and insert foot all the way to the knee.
    God bless

I think you are still an angel for not saying something really bad to the jerk. I feel sorry for the woman who was putting up with him. I can't imagine any reason why I would.
If you see him in the store again ---RUN!

O wow, that tells you the how different people can be from others. Who knows what circumstances caused this man to be a jerk and the other man to a sweetheart. It's so strange though because some people who have hard lives are wonderful people and some are not. Then some who have a fairly so called easy life can be cruel. It fascinates me to delve into why people the way they are and to always consider that there are reasons for why people the way they are. Lol I love psychology obviously. Anyway, just take thexperience with the sweet man and remember it. Then take the one with the jerk and try to forget but be proud for standing up!!

You were smart to avoid that idiot. He could have hauled off and thrown another potato at you.

How on earth did you hold your toungue?? I would have told him I was looking at the biggest controlling bully bas**** I've ever seen in my life. You sure do have self-control, that's something I wouldn't have had in that situation. I'll pray for the gal with him, he probably treats her terrible in private. :(

Wow! I can imagine that whole change in emotion for you. And I feel badly for the woman - who knows what she endures. I shop for my mom sometimes in an elderly community and it is true, they need a lot of help! My mom is now 94 and it is humbling how she holds on to anything that she can do and how I worry about all that she can't do. Have a very nice weekend, angel.

You are an angel, your wings were just momentarily tucked in. Can't leave those things hanging out all the time. Have a wonderful day.
