I've Got Chills..... Their Multiplying

On June 4th, 2011 I ran the King Tiger 5k. My main goal for this 5k was to see if if I had another 22:xx in me. My big, near impossible, goal was a sub 22 race.
I did things a bit different for this race. I actually trained for this 5k. Funny right? One would think all the long distance running I do would prepare me to "only" go 3.11 miles. Not so! Running shorter distances means running differently.
The day of the race came and I got up and did my normal routine. Read my Bible, ate my PB&J then packed up the family. My whole family was running the race too.
However, I did some things differently too. I warmed up. Did 1 mile of slower running then did some butt-kicks, knee lifts and strides for about a mile. I have never warmed up for a race before because I wanted to be fresh for the race and felt this would tire me out. However, it did not tire me out.... Quite the opposite.
When we started the race, I was already warmed up so my legs did not feel like jelly. I felt good running and did not feel tired and out of breath.
First mile was right under a 7:00 minute mile. Second mile was around a 7:00 mile and I was feeling good. Mile 3 was a total up hill but I was good with this! I started up the hill and was doing great.
Then a certain song came on my iPod. Have you ever been running and suddenly it seems that time stands still. It is like a moment in time where everything makes sense... Where nothing matters... Where there is no struggle. Where you get chills?This song was "You Are My Passion" by Jesus Culture. It repeats over and over that "My strength in life is I am Yours"! I am God's! That is really what matters. I started thinking about that. I belong to the God of the universe. How awesome is that. When this race is put into that light does it really matter? Does anything? It is like I had this awesome moment then in an instant, I was jerked back into reality.
I was running a race. I looked at my Garmin and it informed me that the last mile was 7:22. I kicked it in and ran the last .2 (the course was long) as fast as I could.
22:42 was my final time. Based on the 3.11 race, it was a 7:18 pace... Based on my Garmin it was a 7:06 pace for 3.20. I placed 1st in my age group and got another 22:xx. However, I learned something today.
1. I can get chills on a hot day of running.
2. I am trained and feel like I have a sub 22 in me somewhere.
3. It is important to me, but compared to my relationship with God, it really doesn't matter.

    I absolutely believe that you can glorify God through running. As in all things, do them as you were serving our Lord.
    Its nice that we are all united in Him.

    I need to do a good warmup before a 5K or even a 1 miler. That's a must - otherwise, I can't start off strong. You did great at this 5K!!! They're 3.1 miles of agony, though. :D
