Dipping my toe in the water

Monday, June 20, 2011

I want to take this seriously. I've been working on exercise in the past three weeks after several years of utter stagnation and hibernation.

I have to fight hard against my default inertia.

I decided that I want to prolong my life. I am going to have a grandchild (due date is December 18). It's an unexpected surprise---and I want to live to see this baby (and to buy gifts for him or her and write old-fashioned letters and do all the things that a grandmother of 100 years ago might have done.

I'm just not contemporary. emoticon

We're in the same boat. I am 60 and so sedentary before Spark People that I made the couch look active. I started small with walking at the mall with a friend and slowly added from there. I do things that are fun for me and that keeps me doing it. If I'm just doing it because "I have to," or "I need to". I just eventually stop doing it. So better to find activities that suit you. And find a buddy, keeps you accountable and makes it more fun. I'm so proud of you for taking this step. Keep it up.

Welcome and thank you for your comment on my blog! I have some of those books on my shelf too. Spark has been so helpful to me in overcoming inertia and I'm sure it will help you too. Congratulations on that new grandchild in the wings! emoticon

I managed to reach my goal even though I am well over 60. It took a little longer, but it was a steady loss for the most part. You can do it.

I am in the same boat as you. I was doing great on Spark and then lost all motivation. It has been a rough year that has included ALOT of sitting around doing nothing. Best of luck to you - we can both do this!!
