Trying to be patient

Tuesday, June 14, 2011

It is so hard to be patient. I know that the choices I have been making will slowly and surely add up into weight loss. I just wish I could step on the scale and have lost 10 pounds and already feel "successful." But I know I am already successful because I can already tell that I have slightly improved my cardiovascular capacity. Also I am successful because I made good choices at the supermarket last night. Yes, they call these "non-scale victories." And I am successful even without knowing how much/if I have lost any weight yet. I will weigh myself tomorrow, but knowing that some of my small changes have only been for a few days, I just have to realize that the number may be the same and other changes might be happening inside my body.

It sure is frustrating when that scale doesn't move, no matter how hard you try. Good for you for looking at the positives!

    You are right!

Sometimes we focus too closely on the number on the scale and not how we feel about ourselves.

I know that while I may not dip down in the scale, I am getting better and feeling better and that is what REALLY needs to matter.

Just focus on every day and every small victory and you'll look back one day soon and go "Wow!"

It sounds like you are making the changes you need to be successful. I hope the scale is kind to you, but don't panic if it's not. You will get there in the end. Take it one day at a time.

You are making good choices and can celebrate your "non-scale victories" as you make them! I once read that it is the behavior that should be rewarded vs. the results (probably got that from Spark People). ;) Anyway, just doing what you are doing and all of a sudden, one day waking up to weight loss, will be another (this time, with a scale) victory worth celebrating! Just remember that it IS the good choices you are making that deserve your undivided attention, and that everything else WILL fall into place!

You can do it! Even if the number isn't what you want it to be, remember that sometimes you can gain weight when you first start making changes because you're gaining muscle. However, I do hope you have a happy weight-in!
