De-throning the Queen of Procrastination!

I don't know if "de-throning" is even a word, but I am taking a BIG step today. I have put off buying a laptop for years because I couldn't justify spending the money when there were so many other things I needed to do with the cash. HOWEVER, over these past several years, I have spent hundreds (probably thousands) on fast food, pizza, and lots of other unhealthy things! I don't have the internet at home and therefore, my time to log into Sparkpeople is limited to breaks and lunch hours at work...and there always seems to be something else I end up spending my time on so....I don't get around to tracking my food and reading things, connecting, etc. on Sparkpeople. And here I am, still not making the progress that I keep THINKING about, and not truly, actively, pursuing my goal of getting healthy. I'm no better off financially either. SOOOOOOOO....today, I'm buying the laptop, sacrificing the fast food, and re-committing to Sparkpeople! I know that in the past, when I was logging in, spinning the wheel, and doing other things to earn points, that I was making positive changes and seeing progress.

Here is what recently happened: two days ago, my youngest daughter left Michigan for Colorado. She is doing an internship in Colorado Springs and will be there until mid-August. In the 21 years of her sweet life, we have never been apart for more than two weeks. She is a techie-kid and is very proficient on her macbook, her iphone and all that stuff. Although we text and e-mail, etc. we decided I needed to try that "skype" thing. Well, if I want to skype, I need a web cam. I didn't think my boss would be too excited about me putting a web cam on my work computer....so, I began shopping for an affordable lap top. I believe I found one that will suit me and I can afford (sort of). Like I said, I will have to sacrifice the convenience of fast food and other dumb things that I waste my money on, but I see this as a positive move for myself! There are many productive things I can do with a lap top -- and I will be praying on this -- online Bible study, Sparkpeople, writing, connecting with my daughter -- just to name a few. My focus will be on God and getting healthy; being productive instead of inactive; creative instead of stagnant....

If you read this, I would appreciate your prayers! I can't keep putting off taking care of myself. Everyday I thank God that my health issues are minor compared to those of others. I regret that many of these issues are self-inflicted because of my weight and lack of exercise. I know I have started and re-started more times than I can count, but I also know that I'm not going to get to my goal if I give up! It sounds simple, but as most people know, it's one of the hardest things not to do.....

    Hugs and prayers! One of the biggest things that has helped me is making God a priority! I checked out "Made to Crave" for the library and it could have been me writing it.

    Good for you! I dependon my lasptop and Skype to keep in touch with my three kids in the states from here in Germany. I love Skype. I have had my HP laptop for one year now and it is easy to Skype with it. I also recommend dowloading the free online Bible software. It is called YouVersion. I do my devotionals either from my phone or laptop. YouVersion has several reading plans that you track your progress as you read the Bible.

    I think that you have thought this through and that it is a very good decision on your part. :) Skype is an amazing thing and works really well for staying in touch, my family and I have been using it for years. I will be praying for you, that you will make wise decisions and have the energy and determination to stay strong in taking care of yourself. emoticon emoticon
