I've lost over 20 pounds! And I'm finally learning!

Thursday, May 19, 2011

I've lost over 20 pounds with medifast, I've got about 10 or so to go. I'm starting to plan transition out of their weight loss phase and will soon add back in healthy foods. We joined a CSA and I'm looking forward to adding in a lot of fresh local veggies.

At the end of this, I should be 'clean eating' a low carb, veggie centric diet. I was a vegetarian/vegan from 15-25 years old, so it doesn't feel too restrictive. I won't be vegetarian, but I will follow the Mark Bittman mantra of "Eat food, not too much, mostly vegetables."

I'm embarrassed that I had to resort to medifast, but I was OUT OF CONTROL and a diet that tells me exactly what to eat and when with no wiggle room works for me. I can lose weight like a champ, but I regain every damn time.

So I'm spending a lot of time planning out how I will eat for the rest of my life. I'm identifying tasty foods that are good for me and don't make me feel deprived. I'm tackling my emotions instead of feeding them. I'm making a lot of positive changes.

What I'm not doing is trying to change everything all at once. I'm getting a handle on one thing at a time. For now it is food. Once I'm good with food (though I know I'll have to be diligent forever), then I'll deal with exercise, or my pain levels, or my depression, or whatever it is that bubbles up as the next greatest issue.

Thanks as always for the support.

You're so right about being careful not to try to change everything all at once. Slow and steady, one new good habit at a time, and you'll get there. Congratulations on your fantastic progress! emoticon
