helpful portion control hints, and some jokes and motivation I hope

Monday, May 16, 2011

Why not totally relate to my challenges this week it kind of relate SO I DID SOME RESEARCH ON PORTION CONTROL, Here are some helpful hints I hope.
1.. Break Leftovers Down
Instead of using one large container to store leftovers such as casseroles, side dishes, or pasta, why not separate them into individually-sized containers?
That way, when you reach in the fridge to find something to reheat, you're retrieving just enough for one helping. Breaking down meal-sized servings into single servings will help you limit your food intake with no additional effort. I think i will try this one. I usually find myself with allot of leftover.
2. Single out Trigger Foods
Buy snack foods in single serving sizes or divvy up full size packages into smaller, individual bags. It may be difficult to stop eating, oh, say, tortilla chips (My biggest weakness!) straight out of the bag while watching Desperate Housewives, but am I as likely to inhale the contents of 12 zipper bags without some forethought? Doubtful. I think I will try this at work. I like to have a little potatoes chips with my lunch but don’t even need a small bag of them.
3. Keep Seconds Out of Sight
Don't serve family meals family-style. Keep pots and dishes away from the table where it's all too easy to go for seconds. This one is easy for me since i am on the no s diet what require no seconds five day a week,
3. Meet Yourself Halfway
a restaurant, pack up half of your meal before you even start eating: Voila! You have an instant dinner! I do this one all the time I usually take half the meal home for lunch or the next day dinner.
Use half your normal amount of half-and-half in your morning coffee. Calories saved: 20 per tablespoon.
Drink half of your 20-ounce bottle of soda today and half tomorrow instead a whole bottle each day. Calories saved: 125 each day.I don’t dink pop that much but this does sounds like a good idea
Use one slice of bread when making a sandwich instead of two slices. Calories saved: 70.I do this one and like it
Use half as much olive oil as usual when you sauté veggies for dinner. Calories saved: 119 per tablespoon. Will be trying this one Also I have read IT BETTER to use some olive oil after the food cook,
4. Be a Kid at Heart (or Tummy?)
Order a kid's size meal when you go to fast food places to automatically control portions (and save money!). I never knew you could a kid meal I will be trying this. Don't be embarrassed about asking for a child's meal. It's really no big deal. I've even got a trick for places that have a "12 and under sign" -- I order it to go and then plop right down in the dining room, eat my meal, and give the toy to a kid sitting nearby! McDonald's has introduced a new Happy Meal and it's just for grown ups. You even get a toy prize of sorts -- a pedometer -- This Happy Meal for adults includes a premium salad, bottled water and a Stepometer brand pedometer which can be used to track your daily steps. I will be trying this happy meal won’t need the pedometer since I do have a good one and do count my steps daily.
5. Serving Standards
Learn to "eyeball" standard portion sizes and stick to them when dining out or dishing up meals.
Keep these tips in mind: 3 oz. of meat is the size of a deck of cards or an audio tape; 1 oz. of meat is the size of a matchbook; 1 cup of potatoes, rice or pasta looks like a tennis ball.
You can cut the calories of your favorite foods by 50% without changing anything about them -- just eat half. For example, if you usually eat a deli sandwich at lunch, eat half it, but replace your chips with carrot sticks. Still hungry? Before you reach for the rest of your sandwich, munch on a piece of fruit. Produce takes longer to eat and digest than other foods, which means you'll have more time to notice you're getting full. Plus, the added fiber in both the carrots and fruit will help you feel more satisfied, for much longer, than chips would have.
If heating up leftovers the next day isn't your cup of tea, find out if your eatery offers lunch-sized portions of their dishes. These are almost always significantly smaller than full-sized dinner entrees, so don't be afraid to ask if you can purchase the lunch entree at dinner time. I come from a big family so leftover a weigh of life with us. But I love the idea of eating off the lunch menu if allow.,
6. . Treat Yourself
And last, but not least ... indulge!
Treating yourself once in a while to a "forbidden" food will keep you from feeling deprived; a sense of deprivation can easily lead to overeating. Stop a binge before it starts by indulging every now and then. Actually on the no s diet i have two day a week when I can eat what I want.
Okay these hints weren’t only for you I like writing down my hints for the week so I have a place to go back to and review them during the week. So if you have any hints on portion control I would love to know them.
Now on to daily jokes
