Last year about this time, I was blogging about Abigayle's first 5k. Abigayle is my 13yo who is almost 5 inches taller than me. Today I am blogging about Maggie's first 5k. She is my 10yo, who is almost as tall as me, and I got to run with her on Friday, May 13th, 2011.
Allow me a sappy moment!
I have to say as a mommy you get to do things with/for your children that no one else gets to do. Here are some of the things I have done as a mommy:
1. I carried my girls inside of me for 9 months. No one else can say that.
2. I am the one they come to for all the girl questions and the counseling they need.
3. I was the one who lead my girls to Jesus Christ. I got to pray with them when they asked Him to become their LORD and savior. (That is the most important thing to me).
4. I got to run with them on their first 5k.
Maggie is really not a runner....yet. But a few months ago, she decided to run with me in a 5k. Our church was running it, along with her best friend. So we signed up.
Mile 1 was pretty good. We were just having fun and sorta running. Maggie got a cramp but continued forward motion. Abigayle (who runs xc) went ahead and ran her own race. She did wonderful! Set a road race 5k PR!
I have to admit that the 2nd mile was a suffer-fest for Maggie. She did not think she was going to make it and kept saying that she wished she had listened to me and trained better. However, I did not care about the clock and wanted this to be fun for her.
Mile 3 came and she regained her motivation... going out to dinner with family and friends...that's my girl!
She finished well and got a nifty medal to show off to all her friends. We, as a family took a picture to remember the moment.
She said she would train to do another one. Then we went out to eat. She was proud that she was able to complete "her Marathon".
