Running Again!

Tuesday, May 10, 2011

I went running tonight. I am so proud of myself! It was about 90 degrees today and I wasn't sure I was going to be able to make myself run. But, I did!

Actually, I took off 2 days before my triathlon, then had the triathlon, and then have taken off the 2 days since the triathlon. So, I've been feeling kind of sluggish and eating pretty poorly. I'm really disappointed in myself, but ready to get back on track!

Also, my half marathon fell through...again. It is really not her fault, but my sister-in-law had a conflict come up and so, once again, she won't be going... which means Nana won't be going...which means I won't have a babysitter...which means it's kind of silly to travel all the way to California to race. I'm disappointed! I've been training hard & was looking forward to a fun race AND meeting a handful of SPers!!! But, it just isn't going to work out! That also has had me bummed. But, I must move on!

I worked on speed again tonight. I'm really wanting to get faster. I love using my Garmin watch, especially as I'm learning to use some of its functions! Tonight I set it for intervals: 2 min runs followed by 1 min walks for a total of 10 intervals. Well, I averaged a 12:04 pace! Just last week I tried this same interval, but only did 8 repeats, and averaged 12:09! So, I'm improving! Yeah!

I also did a 5 minute warmup run, so ended up running almost 3 miles (2.93) in 35:05. My PR for a 5K is now 36:45 based on this weekend's triathlon. So, I'm working on beating that! I plan on using the 'virtual partner' on Thursday and seeing if I can get close to a 12 minute pace. My plan is to run that 5K once per week until I CAN run it at a 12 minute pace.

Tomorrow I'll be riding my bike during my daughter's swim practice. AND...I'm trying CrossFit!!! I'm really excited! I can't wait to tell you all about it!

Bummer on the Half but everything has a purpose and a perfect timing.
I love that you are still learning your Garmin - I am too! Too funny! I just don't have enough hours in the day to play with it. LOL. I do want to learn the intervals on it as after my half I am going to start doing interval training for awhile.
Way to get out there and run! Keep up the great work!

You are doing great. Too bad about the HM. I did not start running until my kids were teens. When they get that old you have lots of time when you can be gone and they don't even notice. It does not help if you are actually travelling to a race, but I can run a local HM and my kids might not even be up when I get back home. So just concentrate of getting done what works for you now. That kid stuff will change with rime.

Sorry to hear about your HM, but those things do happen. Kudos to you for the run workout yesterday. I went out and ran in the heat but had no horsepower in my engine... lol. It got to me and I had to cut it short. BUT at least I was out there. You are doing great. Keep up the good work.

Don't be disappointed with yourself, you are doing great. A couple of days at a change of pace will keep your body guessing and you have the right attitude to get back to it. Good luck with your running. Trying to make personal bests can be frustrating. I take a week or two without timing when that happens, then make a new start.

Boo to you not being able to come out for the RnR.

Maybe in a couple of years you can look forward to your daughter being a runner and participating in races with you. I can't imagine keeping up with such a busy fitness schedule with children.

    Great job with the intervals!

I think you deserved those days of rest after the tri :). Way to get back into it and keep the momentum going. Sorry about the half, that is kind of a bummer, the good part is there will be more HMs. I know when one happens you are going to rock it!! :)

That's too bad that you won't be able to make the HM, but I'm sure you'll get another opportunity soon!! You are doing awesome with the running, and you will definitely PR at your next 5K!!

Have fun trying CrossFit! Let us know how it goes! It has always intrigued me!!
