New Month/Goals/Challeng

Monday, May 02, 2011

Doing a little morning sparking before work! I'm excited that my workout bug has taken hold. I'm starting to get daily exercise! Yay! And it's because I'm making it happen. I'm getting to the gym 3 times a week...and I've started doing home workouts on the days in between. It feels great.

Most of my weight loss up to this point has been due to the "eating right" side of SP. Eating right is important and will take the weight off. But it's kind of a passive approach. It involves "stopping" something (overeating and emotional eating). The "get moving" part of SP is more active. It involves "starting" something (any activity that gets you moving).

Some of my "get moving" activities include...doing the stairs at home more, carrying things up and down the stairs, doing more cleaning, doing more laundry, exercising with my kettlebells, exercising with the Wii, taking the dogs for walks, shopping, working in the yard, and painting. These are all things I would have done minimally in the past...avoiding activity. Now, I am embracing them...and my mind is thinking...yay, activity! That's a nice change.

The little reward system is continuing to get me over the hurdles in my day. When I come up against something I don't want to do, but need to do, I say, "Come on, let's get this done...and I'll give you a prize." It works! I'm not using food prizes, though. That's a big no-no for me.

Over the weekend, our biggest accomplishment was getting the grass cut. It was REALLY long. DH had to fix one of the mowers, too...in order for us to be able to get it all done. So, another thing is now fixed and the yard looks great. I happily did the push mowing. As I was going over the backyard, I was pushing forward...but when I would hit a bunch of tall grass, I would pull back and go over it again. I thought about how this was like losing weight. Our weight will dip down, then pull back up to the higher number, then drop again. I guess it's just trying to get us through the tall, thick grass (but it will look GREAT in the end).

For May, I am going to work on 3 things...getting my water in, exercising daily, and having 4-5 fruits/veggies. These are 3 things that have been on/off as I've journeyed along. I would like to get really solid on these 3 points.

Yesterday, at home, I wore a new Large tank top and my XL Yoga pants I got at Old Navy. These were great buys...$6/pants...$3/top. I put them on and felt GREAT! They were tight but I felt like I looked good. I don't think I'm brave enough to wear them to the gym...but they were great for working out at home. Here's a pic of me being brave and wearing tight-fitting clothes.

And the side view...with Mia...she did a good side pose! Working out with the dogs is challenging...but that's okay...love them!

This week's challenges will be going through my clothes (still haven't finished that) and stripping the paint in the bathroom and repainting (we painted it once...but the paint didn't adhere right...and we aren't sold on the color...so trying again). Hope you all have a great week! It's a new month! Let's make it a good one! Spark on! emoticon

Yaaay for being brave! Your clothes look really comfortable, and they were really good buys--lucky! I love the sideways pose that Mia did with you, adorable! Have a good May! You're going to really notice a difference when you get enough water consistently. I need to do some mowing too. Enjoy May flowers!

You make the greatest analogies. I like this losing weight is like cutting the long grass one! You are doing great. The activity is the thing that will make the biggest difference in the end. Someone needs to email Mother Nature and tell her it's May. We've got snow on the ground over here! Have a great week.

Great blog!! Living on a ranch, lawn mowing is always a part of my summer exercise too. Love the push ahead and pull back metaphor..I'll keep that in mind and use it for inspiration during perspiration if you don't mind me borrowing it?

    Keep on Sparkin' emoticon

emoticon I'm struggling with the activity still. This past week I have had absolutely no energy and it's difficult to even get out of bed. This correlates with the doctor changing one of my heart medicines. I keep telling myself it will take time for my body to adjust but I have to call the doctor today because I feel awful.
