I'm a Salty Dog

Salt...it's like my kryptonite. Except that I don't want to run away from it. I want to consume it in mass quantities.
Especially sunflower seeds. Oh David, how I hate you for inventing that little kernel packed inside that salty shell that I just. can't. stop. eating.
But that isn't my only point of salt overload, it seems.
In conjunction with this week's nutrition challenge, I was very careful to read the sodium content of many of my favorite foods when I did my grocery shopping at the beginning of the week. There are so many foods that contain way more sodium that I deem necessary. Waffles had 470- 470!!!!- mg of sodium. My favorite Thomas Cinnamon Swirl Bagels had 270 mg! I am now at a loss as to what to eat for breakfast now. Those are my staple breakfast items because they're fast and delicious and mostly healthy.
Another one that seriously disturbed me- sea salt! I had never paid attention to the sodium content before because I thought the point of it was to have that same taste, but without the detrimental sodium content. One serving, 1/4 tsp, has 500 mg! I am appalled.
Needless to say, this week's challenge has disturbed me and broken my heart a little.
