Friday's 5K Recap
Sunday, April 24, 2011
Friday was my second 5k of the season and I was doing it with a few friends which is always great. My lack of training over the last couple of weeks had me a little nervous that I was totally going to be sucking wind and walking a good part of it which was an awful feeling since my goal was to finish between 32 and 34 minutes.
It was a beautiful day and a very well done event. I was super excited to be doing this and to be doing it with friends. It was a little windy but you can't win them all. The race started and it was a little bottlnecked for about a half mile and then started to break up here and there. It was a very narrow course which made it hard to pass people in certain areas. I was feeling pretty good but when I saw the mile 1 marker I couldn't believe that was it lol. My pace at mile one was 10:15 which was great, fastest I have ever been. I started to get a little tired after the first mile and decided to walk but not for long after about 30 seconds I decided I was sucking this up and running this race. There were 2 mid sized hills and I would normally walk these but I decided what the heck and ran them, it felt so good. I was at the tail end of the race and the clock was in sight I couldn't believe it when I saw the time as I was going through 31:38, I totally beat my goal
. I can't even begin to explain how happy and proud I was with that.
If I step up my training and get outside to run more during the week I may be able to run a 5k in under 30 this summer, that would be so cool. I am going to be ordering myself a Garmin this week and I'm so excited about it. I think it will be just the right tool to help me to get where I need to be and know exactly where I am.
I hope everyone has a Happy Easter!!
