Finding my Balance

Friday, April 22, 2011

I'm not sure where the balance has been in my life this school year, but since August 2010, I have not taken time for me. Things at work have been crazy. If you have heard anything about Wisconsin teachers in the news this year, you know only a small part of it. Even before all the political events, I have been working late about 3 days a week. I don't know what I would have done without my husband picking up my slack around the house and with the kids. He is the best!

I have taken 13 credits this year and I taught a 3 credit course. This is all in addition to my regular work load. There have been so many nights of professional learning at my school that I have been doing. The hours it takes to prepare and then do it have been incredible. Then add the kids schedules on top of this and I feel like I'm holding my nose just above the water.

I have fallen into old habits-bad eating habits and not getting my exercise in. The kids have started training for a local 10K. We walked it last year. I have started training with the kids and hope that we will be able to walk/run it in June. Yesterday, because of Maudy Thursday, we didn't get our run in, but we are all off today. We are going to do it before lunch today.

I love the feeling I get when I exercise and I love being able to walk/run outside. This winter was long and hard. I didn't get much exercise in. Now I feel more motivated as the weather is finally cooperating. I need to start logging my food again. I started over in diet stages and hope this will help me get back on track.

I hope everyone has a very Blessed Easter.

I am glad that you are seeing the mental benefits of the exercise. So many people miss that. You do have a load to carry there with all the schedules. Maybe during the summer, you can take back some "me" time.

Praying that you and your family have a joyous Easter only and that it is a time of physical as well as spiritual renewal for you. I don't know how you have manged to keep up with all that you have going, but I really admire you for making the most of every opportunity to get and stay on track as much as possible. Good luck to you all in your 10K. Hope that your schedule eases up on you soon!!! Blessings!!!
